With the goal of offering timely help to people with extremely difficult circumstances, the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address” reached important results over the past five years, connecting golden hearts with unfortunates.
Golden hearts
Red Cross Societies at al levels of TDM city mobilized 39 collectives and 80 individuals to offer help to 6,885 poor people with more than VND2.3bln while providing 7,700 poor people with more than VND19bln in loan to develop homebased business over the past five years. Upon the above golden hearts, many unfortunates have so far risen up out of poverty and stabilized their lives.
Tet gifts of 2013 given for the poor, the disabled
and Agent Orange victims Phu Loi ward’s Volunteers’ Club is now an outstanding unit
for the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a
humanitarian address”. And Nguyen Thi Lieu, Head of the Club is in the vanguard
of the campaign. Although not being a well-off person, Mrs.Lieu always spends
her savings on buying rice for the poor every month or frequently gives them
significant gifts on Tet and great holidays. She said: “…I feel happy when
offering help to the poor”.
With a desire to offer timely help to many poor people, Mrs.Lieu and other golden hearts decided to establish Phu Loi ward’s Volunteers’ Club. The Club gives 100kg of rice for people with extremely difficult circumstances every month and it also organizes three or four programs of presenting gifts to the poor a year.
Nguyen Minh Hoa, Vice-Chairman of the city’s Red Cross Society said: “There are now many people in need of help. The society has always had a deep respect for 80 individuals and 39 collectives that offered help to the poor over the past five years. The contribution of organizations and individuals will be a motivation for unfortunates to rise up for a bright future”.
Going along with the poor
So far, the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address” has been implemented in TDM city for five years, according to Mr.Hoa. The campaign also received enthusiastic respond of people from all strata via many significant activities over the past five years, helping many needy households, the disabled, Agent Orange victims and disadvantaged children rise up and stabilize their lives.
Also according to Mr.Hoa, the campaign was concretized by many practical activities for the poor, including providing free medical check-ups and medicine; presenting gifts, scholarships; creating jobs…So far, many effective models and activities, namely “Red Cross house”, “Charity meal”, “Volunteers’ Club”…have been replicated among the city’s Red Cross Society and its affiliates, contributing to taking care of the poor, the disabled and Agent Orange victims.
In addition to the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address”, the program of “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims” has also been promoted by Red Cross Societies at all levels of TDM city. Particularly, they mobilized organizations and individuals to present 2,400 Tet gifts worth VND500mln to the poor in 2011; 3,700 Tet gifts worth VND830mln were presented to the poor in 2012 and there were also 4,400 Tet gifts of 2013 valued at VND1.2bln for the poor
