Lifetime devotion to revolutionary cause

Spending his youth for independence and freedom of the nation, on his time of elderly, Nguyen Huu Tri, an injured war veteran residing at An Dien Commune of Ben Cat Town emerges as an examples of general image of injured war veterans nationwide.

A talented soldier

Born into a family of revolutionary cause, at his 16s, he joined the army and became a commando of C61. By 1965, he returned and worked in major position of the former Thu Dau Mot province. After that he returned to Phu Loi Battalion and worked for Military Corps. Number 5 to participate the battle field till liberation day.

In 1976, he assisted policies of former Song Be province. He had a time span working as transporter of injured soldiers from Cambodian border. In 1978, he left for the North of Vietnam to learn military tactics and was position to criminal investigation unit of the province. Achieving plenty of achievements and uncovering major crimes, he has been praised and awarded as a model of the time. He, then, held the position of Procuracy’s Head of Song Be province from 1980 through 1990 and retired to various positions of local movement drivers from 2002 to 2016.

By November 1969, in the severe battle field of Thu Duc, he and his comrades were ambushed on their way from Thu Duc to Di An, he was injured in his right thigh. He recalled the other time near Chau Thoi mount, he was injured by bomb pressure.

In wartime, he was a soldier of bravery and in peacetime a talented investigator. In whatever positions, he has been so determined to fulfill the assignments.

A clever farmer

Showing us the new bamboo shoots he had taken from his farm, Tri recalled his time of dead or alive: “It had been in severe shortage when we had to eat whatever we could find on our way; however, everything was so delicious at the time as endurance improved in hardship.” But, the fight to make ends meet is out of the question. The endurance of wartime had helped him to overcome.

An Dien commune used to be the land of floods, about 3 to 4 times a year. As the water rose, it could be over human head and no plant could ever survive. Life was harder as his families had their days of getting to Dau Tieng to get root food against hunger.

He was impressed by populated plants in the Mekong delta in his visit. Returning home, he recalled the way of flood preventing and planted his first ever fruit trees; and the outcome was just amazing. He became the first to plant during flooding time. He had successfully transformed 1 hectare of land for fruit plants and 4 hectares for rubber trees. The yield had been so encouraging tom him.

At his 71s and 50 years as a Party member, Tri is now working on extra cultivation of 2 hectares of rubber trees. As his children had all grown up, Tri asserted that his farming days have been great exit. On the 70th anniversary of Martyrs’ Day of July 27, Nguyen Huu Tri was praised by provincial People’s Committee for his outstanding overcoming of hardship and become a model of making ends meet.
