Live on with the career

In recent years, a number of traditional handicraft villages have been revived and developed open up rooms for products made of rattan, bamboo, and leaves. In the townlet of Tan Phuoc Khanh in Tan Uyen District, nearly 20 households are working on such production. They are skillful and enthusiastic workers, devoted to the profession.Sticking with traditional career, they wish to preserve rattan and bamboo products that would never turn them down. Thanks to this career, nearly 20 households in the village have earned stable life. From love to career preservation Mrs. Duong Tieu Ha, 57, a native of An Giang Province is one of the workers of the RTM rattan, bamboo, and leaves handicraft company (a company specializing in rattan decoration on pottery). In 1998 when the company only has 20 workers, her group was under the then management of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bay who is currently managing Thanh Loc exporter of ratten, bamboo, and leaves handicraft.Dissolution of knitting workshop of the RTM company has greatly influenced on her family at the time. However, due to her profession enthusiasm, Ha decided to stick with the work. Old age people in the village kill their time by making handicraft products Upon hearing Mrs. Bay establishing a workshop of rattan, bamboo, and leaves handicraft, Mrs. Ha was one of the first workers to join in.To settle down , Mrs. Ha also came home to convince her family to move to Binh Duong Province and stay at Mrs. Bay home for easier working. She Ha, said: "Up to date, my family has worked and lived here for more than 10 years. Many families like us have brought their whole family here to work and live, forming a village of handicraft without noticing it. "It is called a village because all the wives and mothers here are only doing the same job - handicraft of ratten, bamboo, and leaves. “This is a work of leisure but we have to work all day long. Somehow, our health is affected let alone accidential cuts,” said Mrs. Truong Minh Ngoc from Ben Tre Province. On the high of purchase orders, they even stay till midnight to complete the products which show creativity of the workers. The school students join in making handicraft products in their free time Making the products, they earn averagely VND 4 to 5 million a month to make ends meet. And many families in this village have succeeded in supporting their children by the profession. Thus, this model is worth restructuring in other localities.
