Lives of Khmer ethnic people in Phu Giao improved

An Binh commune in Phu Giao district is now home to 221 Khmr ethnic minority households with 843 people. Thanks to the local Party and government’s attention and help, the lives of Khmer ethnic people herein have been markedly improved.

Kim Hoai, a Khmer ethnic resident in An Binh commune’s Tan Thinh hamlet said that his family previously faced a lot of difficulties. But, thanks to the State’s support policies for ethnic minority people, his family’s spiritual and material lives have been markedly improved.

His family has to date grown  7 hectares of rubber trees, including 4 hectares under exploitation. Every day, his family taps 100 kg of rubber latex, securing an average income of VND1mln. He is also the owner of a small sales store at home. With the above business and production, his average income amounts to several hundreds of millions a year.

Like the household of Kim Hoai, many other ethnic households in An Binh commune have received the attention and help of the local authorities in economic development with many effective models. The household of Kim Nho and Nguu Thi Lan is a typical example for this.

Lan said that she and her husband over time received the timely support and attention of the local authorities, helping them build up a new, ever well-off and happier life. Her family now possesses a 5-hectare rubber and cashew plantation under exploitation. On average, her family harvests 3,5 or 4 tons of cashew nuts a year with income of VND40-VND50 mln. Every day, her family also taps 100kg of rubber latex .

In addition to the two above households, many other Khmer ethnic households of Kim Phuoc, Thanh Ninh, Tri Gay…in An Binh commune have pooled their efforts to rise up out of poverty and get rich.

Tran Cong Quang, vice-chairman of An Binh communal People’s Committee said: “Previously, ethnic minority people herein faced a lot of difficulties. But thanks to the local authorities’ support policies, their lives have been considerably improved. They have so far implemented their technical and scientific application in production, resulting in having high economic efficiency. This has contrubuted to improving their spiritual and material lives…
