After 38 years of national liberation, Binh Duong’s socio-economic performance is now on way of sustainable development. The spiritual and material lives of laborers herein have also seen obvious changes.
Laborers’ quality of life improved in many aspects
The whole province now has around 850,000 laborers, including around 56.8% of female laborers and around 85% of immigrant ones, with the average salary of VND2.5mln per capita per month. Some enterprises have increased their allowances for laborers by between VND50,000 and VND50,000 person. This has contributed to sharing difficulties with laborers, helping them have a strong attachment with enterprises.
Provincial People’s Committee has
also implemented a plan on social housing development for laborers in the 2011
and 2015 period, contributing to basically dealing with the local demand for
accommodation. So far, the province has put a social housing area with 115
apartments of between 30sq.m and 60sq.m each for low-income laborers into use while
further working out additional 6 social housing projects in TDM city, Thuan An
town, Di An town and Ben Cat district with total floor area of 60,866sq.m,
comprising of 1,098 apartments. 
Trade Union locals have paid more attention to taking care of workers’ spiritual life by many entertainment activities
In addition, there have been 225 enterprises getting involved in building lodging facilities with total floor area of 300,000 sq.m, supplying accommodations for around 60,000 laborers. Noticeably, Becamex IDC has implemented its social housing program between 2011 and 2015 with 37 projects capitalized at VND10.83trillion in localities with industrial parks, including TDM city, Di An town, Thuan An town, Ben Cat and Tan Uyen districts. It is expected that they will supply accommodations for around 167,000 laborers.
Some enterprises, namely Hai My Co.Ld. in Thuan An town’s Thuan Giao ward, Shyang Hung Cheng Co.Ltd. in Thuan An town’s An Thanh ward, Yazaki Co. in Di An town’s Di An ward…, have also taken initiative in building kindergartens for the offspring of laborers. This has contributed to helping laborers keep their mind on work and have a strong attachment with enterprises.
Apartedly, authorities at all levels have made efforts in taking laborers’ spiritual and material lives during the annual Tet festival. During the 2013 Tet festival, they extracted nearly VND3.8bln from social fund and State budget to present more than 7,500 gifts to laborers. Trade Unions at all levels also mobilized employers to buy 15,311 bus tickets for needy laborers returning home for Tet with a total expense of nearly VND12bln. Provincial Labor Union also extracted its State budget to buy 599 bus tickets worth nearly VND600mln for needy laborers going home for Tet.
Such these apart, provincial Labor Union has regularly paid attention to dissemination of information about the law, traffic safety, social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance among laborers. There have been 1,747 enterprises and units in the province getting involved in social insurance and health insurance or 96% of total. As of October 2012, 48,303 laborers enjoyed the unemployment insurance allowance of more than VND313.5bln…
Practicalness from Workers’ Month and Week for Young Workers
The 6th provincial Week for Young Workers will take place from May 1 to 7 with many key activities such as a “joyful market-day” for young workers in industrial parks, a program honoring outstanding young workers, a job day for youths, “Green Sunday-Voluntary young workers”…During the week, the organizers will also visit and present gifts to young workers with difficulties; provide free medical check-ups and medicine for young workers…
Launched in 2009, the “Workers’ Month” campaign has received support from tens of thousands of laborers across the province with many significant activities. Many cultural-sports activities have been organized by mass organizations in response to the campaign. Particularly, VSIP’s Trade Union kicked off the qualifying round of the 2013 art performance festival with 97 items; organized a culinary contest with 40 participating teams, luring 2,000 trade unionists and laborers. Di An town’s Labor Union also organized a mini-football tournament with the participation of more than 42 teams…
