Over 10 policies of poverty reduction of loan assistance, hi-unity house offering, vocational training and job placement and so on have helped the province become one of the country’s typical localities making breakthroughs of poverty reduction.
Typical modalities of poverty escape
Mrs. Phan Thi En, a very poor household in Phu Giao district’s Phuoc Hoa commune has escaped poverty thanks to assistance from local authorities and Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. Her family now enjoys an income of over VND100,000 per day.
Meanwhile, Mr. Truong Van Thang is a typical example of poverty escape in Tan Uyen district’s Lac An commune. In 2008, he spent over VND40mil to upgrade his charity house.
Breakthroughs of poverty reduction
The provincial administration targets to minimize the rate of re-poverty households, eliminate poor households in line with new poverty line, cancel dilapidated houses and so on in 2010. The local program of poverty reduction for 2006-2010 period has reached remarkable results. More than 26,000 poor households and students have so far enjoyed preferential interest rates. Over 8,000 students have enjoyed loans for study.
Poor people enjoy free health check-up and medicines.
Besides, the province has so far built new over 6,500 hi-unity houses with a sum of VND26bil for the poor, granted health insurance cards for all poor people and exempted and decreased tuitions for privileged families’ students as well as mobilized donors and enterprises to donate learning aids to disadvantaged pupils and among others.The provincial department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs vice director of Ninh Quoc Binh said “the national target program of poverty reduction has entered a new phase with measures suitable to every locality. The province annually strives to drop 2% of poor households to complete its poverty reduction target by late 2010.
To implement the above target, the province continues conducting 10 policies of poverty reduction, boosting propagations in a bid to urge community, companies, units and donors to involve in the program.
