Tran Van Nam, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee (PC) made the statement at the 84th session of provincial PC approving a report on the four-year implementation of “Developing culture, sports and tourism; building and effectively using province’s cultural-sports institutions in the 2011-2015 period”. Accordingly, the local sector of culture-sports and tourism needs to make more efforts in setting up playgrounds, improving cultural officials’ competence and effectively using cultural institutions.
Diversified activities
According to Nguyen Thi Minh Nghia, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, provincial Traditional Art Troupe and Mobile Squad on Propaganda and Film Show organize 120 or 140 performance shows to serve the local people every year. Their contents are linked with the campaign of “The entire people consolidate to build up cultural lifestyle in residential areas”…

Provincial Library always absorbs a large number of young readers
The local people’s demand for reading to widen their knowledge is also very great. Every day, provincial Library and its affiliates welcome tens to hundreds of readers. Since 2011, they have added more than 111,000 book copies, bringing their total number of book, newspaper and magazine copies to 512,000. Bringing into full play cultural activities, provincial Literature-Fine Arts Association over time organized a competition on composing literature-fine art works, beautiful photos about Binh Duong…with hundreds of participants.
The local sector of culture, sports and tourism has also paid attention to preserving and restoring intangible and tangible cultural values to raise the local people’s cultural lives. So far, the whole province has had a total of 50 national, provincial-level historical cultural relics. According to Nguyen Van Quoc, Director of provincial Museum, intangible cultural forms like wood sculpture, “mua bong roi” (southern folk dance), glass painting, especially “don ca tai tu Nam bo” (southern amateur traditional music)…are being researched and collected. The whole province is now home to 59 clubs with 800 members. Provincial Museum has also collected nearly 30,000 documents and exhibits and it welcomes 150,000-180,000 visitors every year.
Quality gradually raised
Till now, Binh Duong has built provincial Center for Culture-Movie, Traditional Art Troupe, Stadium with 1,500 seats; restored Phu Loi Prison, “Tam giac sat” (Iron triangle) tunnel, D war base…There have been 31 of 91 communes, wards and towns with cultural-sports centers. The province has also mobilized all social sources to invest in cultural-sports institutions.
Along with building cultural institutions, the quality of the sector’s staff has been improved by sending them to training courses on professional skills.
Mrs.Trinh said that although the province has made efforts in promoting cultural development, this has not been corresponding to the local socio-economic development scale yet.
In the face of the above situation, according to Mr.Nam, tasks set forth for the province are to perfect zoning work and mobilize all sources to invest in cultural institutions. The sector also needs to deliberate about working mechanism, personnel apparatus, methods for use…to have cultural institutions corresponding to the local socio-economic development scale.
Such these apart, the sector needs to build up a competent workforce to create more useful playgrounds for the local people. In the coming time, the province will focus on taking measures to meet the local people’s demand of enjoying culture; give priority to building cultural institutions, strengthen human resources to the local cultural management work.
