Bui Thanh Nhan, vice chairman of the provincial Labor Union said that Vietnam General Federation of Labor spurs the work on taking care of laborers’ living and dialogue between employers and employees to solve difficulties and create investment environment stably.
Binh Duong is home to nearly 820,000 workers, 85% of whom are from other provinces and 70% of whom are women. In order to help immigrant laborers stabilize living, all level sectors and businesses have focused on building accommodation for laborers. Until now, 225 businesses have involved in building accommodation for laborers, offering accommodation for more than 35,000 workers.
In addition, Phu Hoa social house built by Binh Duong Construction-Consultancy-Investment Company has included 115 apartments, offering accommodation for 589 low incomers. The Industrial Development and Investment Company alone has put into use 3 projects with 4,700 apartments, meeting accommodation for 10,800 people. These projects have contributed to solve houses for local workforce.
Aside from paying much attention to accommodation for laborers, local trade union at all levels in cooperation with functional agencies has implemented inspections of the implementation of Labor Code and Trade Union Law across 156 businesses. Accordingly, ignorance of labor contract signing, social insurance payment, salary payment, prolonged shift increase and many more has been solved drastically.
In addition, owing to impact on economic crisis, laborers have increased their awareness on labor discipline. In order to enhance legal knowledge for laborers, in this year trade union at all levels has held 869 training classes on Labor Code and Trade Union Law and decrees of legal policies for more than 100,000 laborers.
Salary is the decisive factor of regulations of labor standard, impacting directly on laborers’ living and the main reason leading to labor disputes and strikes. Notably, strikes often occur at FDI businesses. Statistically, laborers’ average salary at FDI companies in the province is at VND3mil per capita per month whilst VND2,8mil at private companies. This level of income is still low compared with the current market price.
“To create a stable investment environment, trade union at all level and relevant agencies will continue to pay much attention to laborers’ material and spiritual living”, Bui Thanh Nhan added.
