Members of Chanh Nghia ward Volunteers’ Club come with the poor

Members of Chanh Nghia ward Volunteers’ Club are local laborers. They are drivers, builders, repairers and so on. With such hard works, they annually spend amount money from their modest incomes to help the poor and urge friends and donors to involve in charity activities.

Gifts given to the poor

Lastly, the club’s members held a gift visit to the poor in Nha Bich commune under Binh Phuoc province’s Chon Thanh township. Luu My, a senior member of the club shared “Aside from money contributed from the club’s members, we mobilized local people to share with the poor. To grant gifts to the poor, the club’s members mobilized donors to contribute several boxes of instant noodles, some soya bean bottles and so on.

Happiness of the poor after receiving the gifts is a driving force for the club’s members to keep involving in the good deed. Lam Thi Choi, a Khmer ethnic woman, said “Sometimes, we receive gifts from donors, so our life has been improved”. Lam Du, secretary of Nha Bich communal party committee, said “Nha Bich is a poor commune of Binh Phuoc province. Most of residents here are ethnic minority people suffering a difficult life, owing to shortage of production land. They are therefore in dire need of assistance from the community”.

In addition, the club’s members pay gift visits unexpectedly to the unlucky after hearing about their circumstances through mass media or acquaintances.

Feeling happiness from the other’s joy

The club’s members are mainly middle incomers. To join in gift visits, they have to decrease their expenditure. Pham Hong Chau, a driver cum member of the club, said “I have involved in the club for 20 year. In the past years, each gift visit, we only granted about 50 gift packages for the poor. At present, thanks to assistance from donors, we bring joy to many poor people”.

In the previous years, the members had to make surveys to grant gifts to the poor in need, but afterwards they enjoy advantages from the provincial Red Cross. Tran Thi Lien, the provincial Red Cross chairwoman, assessed “the club’s members are laborers but they positively involve in charity activities. They in cooperation with the Red Cross annually pay gift visits to the poor everywhere”.
