Giao district’s Veterans Society promoted the emulation movement of “Veterans
helping each other in poverty eradication and economic development” among
members over the past years. Under the emulation movement, members of the
district’s Veterans Society helped each other overcome difficulties, rise up out of poverty and legitimately get
rich. 
Veteran Phung Van Thuc in Tan Lap commune is a typical example of Phu Giao district’s Veterans Society in rising up out of poverty.
According to Nguyen Duc Tien, Chairman of Phu Giao district’s Veterans Society, Phu Giao district is an agricultural locality in the remote region of the province with many favorable conditions in terms of soil and weather for economic development, so the lives of the local people have been improved constantly.
Defining that poverty eradication, good business and improvement of members’ lives are among its top tasks, the district’s Veterans Society has always encouraged members to take part in economic development, rise up out of poverty and legitimately get rich by many forms…
Under the emulation movement of “Veterans helping each other in poverty eradication and economic development” plus the attention of the local authorities at all levels and the efforts by the local Veterans Societies at all levels and members, the rate of poor households in the whole society of 2013 reduced to 14 households or 0.83% of total. The lives of members were improved considerably. As of late 2013, there were 1,443 well-off members or 84.94% of total, up 5.66% compared to 2012; 240 members with living standards at average level or 14.23% of total and down 5.2% compared to 2012.
For the emulation movement well realized, the district’s Veterans Societies at all levels carried out such concrete programs as setting up loan-giving groups. Over the past four years, the district’s Veterans Society established 44 such groups, providing more than VND29bln in loan for 1,642 households. It also disbursed more than VND3bln from its fund for 224 members to develop home based business; effectively maintained the operation of 11 saving groups with more than VND730mln for 88 members…
The district’s Veterans Society also mobilized well-off members to give needy ones support on breeding animals and nurslings with more than VND300mln; mobilized organizations and individuals to build 2 gratitude houses and 1 unity great house for needy members with a total expense of VND190mln.
Thanks to the emulation movement of “Veterans helping each other in poverty eradication and economic development”, members of the district’s Veterans Society have risen up and become owners of the local farmsteads. The whole society now has 115 farmsteads with many different models and a people’s credit cooperative managed by members…
So far, many role-models in production and business, namely Duong Ba Uoc, Nguyen Thanh Trung in Phuoc Vinh township; Phung Van Thuc, La Van Binh in Tam Lap commune; Luong Van Song, To Van Hai in Phuoc Hoa commune; Do Thi Tim, Vu Dinh Dong in An Thai commune…have also been discovered. All are also outstanding examples in the emulation movements of “Veterans helping each other in poverty eradication and economic development”.
