In 2012, Ms. Hoang Thi Lai got the hemiplegia because of a stroke. Since thenc, she has had to live on compassion of neighborhood.

Ms. Lai cried when talking about her son’s learning Her little house locates in a rubber tree plantation at hamlet 1, Tan Binh commune, Tan Uyen district. She always cries whenever telling about her family. In many years, she has had to do many jobs to bring up her two children. She taps rubber trees when it rains; or she works as a servant for wealthy families when it is sunny. Although life is difficult, her family overcame all together.Sympathizing with her mother, Ms. Lai’s first son Hoang Vuong put a lot of effort in his learning. Vuong was admitted in both Ton Duc Thang University and HCM City Architecture University in 2011. Owing to difficult family circumstance, Vuong decided to study at Ton Duc Thang University to reduce tuition fees. In the first 2 years, despite many efforts, Ms. Lai could only pay for Vuong’s tuition fees. Vuong had to take care of other expenditure like accommodation, food, books and documents etc. himself by doing part-time jobs, such as tutor, serving at restaurants, coffee shops…Ms. Lai said: “I felt so happy as observing my son’s maturity and sometimes dreamed of a better future after his graduation. 4 years at university is not too long, together we could go through this time”.Unfortunately, in 2012, she had a stroke, then moved arduously and stayed at hospital for a long time. Additionally, her youngest son suddenly got epilepsy and had to quit school. In September 2013, she was heart-broken when Vuong dropped out of his university to take care of the family. Local government of Tan Binh commune helped Vuong to go back to his university by providing one-term tuition fee from contributions of surrounding people. Ms. Lai said: “Vuong will complete his study one year later. He studies so well, but it is really tough to continue when we are having a lot of problems. Hard working to take care of himself is tiring enough, but he also has to live economically to give me some more money. I always cries when receiving his money. He cries too, and said: “You just need to stay healthy, I can take care of myself…”In the last few months, Ms. Lai and her youngest son have depended on support from neighborhood. She really needs helps and contributions from benefactors. Reported by Q. Dien – Translated by Ngoc Huynh
