Mr. Nguyen Van Phung, 39, from Nghe An Province, is now a devoted beekeeper taking care of the hives at a rubber plantation where we once visited.
Beekeeping seems to be a job of nomadic people who should get from locations to locations for the bees to collect pollens.

Mr. Phung and his 500 bee hives temporarily stationed in Phu Giao District
In his 20s, Mr. Phung met Mrs. Hoa and got married. It was like fate that connected them both even to the beekeeping.
“It’s a different life when you are married. You have to find a job to support the family,” he said. Then, he came to every province in Dong Nam Bo region seeking a way for living.
He has never given up no matter how hard he has managed increasing the humble capital he had. In 2001, he accidentally came to Dong Nai Province and was attracted to nomadic beekeeping.
After discussing with his wife, they preserved VND 20 million to buy 50 bee swarms.
“You may think it’s easy when we have the swams; however, it’s paintaking to carry them to localities of flowers,” he said.
It happened in September which left him 3 months to seek out transportion methods before the bees respawn. He asked for help from the seller who was also a beekeeper but was refused for he had already been taking care of 300 swarms.
It was luckily not the dead end for him when he could contact coffee transporters from the Highland who should take him from Dong Nam Bo Region to Highland when they finished transporting coffee from Highland to Dong Nam Bo Region.
His 50 bee hives had safe station in Ea Sup District of Dak Lak Province.
“It was so joyful to see the bees enjoying the milky flowers of coffee,” Mrs Hoa recalled.
Ten years have passed them by and they now have up to 500 bee hives despite up and down investment from 2003 to 2004. The current bee hives could help him to earn VND 250 million a month for averagely 10 tons of honey and 200kgs of beewax.
“Beginning of February we stay at Dong Nam Bo and the Highland for the blossom season of coffee, rubber trees, and cashew. By April and August we should be in middle land of Vietnam. The swarms recover from September to December,” he said while talking about beekeepers as nomadic people.
