Offering help to the poor, a meaningful deed

Authorities at all levels of TDM city have carried out a lot of humanitarian programs for the sake of unfortunate people, helping them enjoy more joys in life. On the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, many organizations in the city have also prepared significant gifts for them…

Joy from attention

She said: “My joy is also the joy of many other poor people who were provided free eye surgery under the “Bright eyes for the elderly” program. The program seems to bring more joys to unfortunate people”.

Leaders of the province, the city together with the family of Luu Thi Sau took a photograph as souvenir at her longevity celebration ceremony

The local authorities at all levels have not only taken care of poor people’s material lives, but also paid attention to their spiritual lives. Luu Thi Sau, a 100-year-old woman in Phu Hoa ward’s quarter 8 said that she felt very happy when her longevity celebration ceremony at the age of 100 had the presence of leaders of the province, the city and all her descendants. At the ceremony, provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Vo Van Minh extended best regards to her while encouraging her to continue being a bright example, better upholding the role of the elderly in propagandizing and mobilizing her descendants to well realize the Party and State’s policies on building cultural families.

For a warm Tet

Realizing the importance of social support for social welfare work, TDM city has step by step improved the quality of social support activities for unfortunate people. This has helped raise their spiritual and material lives, created the chance for them to better get access to social services and upheld their self-reliance and integration into the community.

In 2014, the city’s People’s Committee decided to provide 668 social beneficiaries with monthly allowances; adjusted subsidies for 496 disabled people; gave sudden support for 8 needy cases. The city’s Division of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) also coordinated with Saigon General Hospital to provide free eye check-up for 88 people and cataract surgery for 21 others with a total expense of VND165mln; joined hands with the city’s Sponsoring Association for Disabled People, Orphans and Poor Patients to provide free medical check-up, medicine and gifts for 200 disable people, orphans and poor patients in wards of Phu Hoa, Phu My, Hiep An and Phu Cuong.

The plan on mobilization of the “Bright eyes for the elderly” program was also implemented. As a result, VND116mln was raised to the program. Around 400 elderly people enjoyed eye examination from the program. It is expected that the program will provide free cataract surgery for 101 elderly people.

Nguyen Duong, Head of the city’s DoLISA said that the city’s DoLISA has always taken initiative in realizing policies for social beneficiaries. The city’s DoLISA has also guided wards of the city to grasp the lives of social beneficiaries to map out timely and suitable support plans.

So far, the city’s DoLISA has made a plan to visit and present Tet gifts to 9,778 policy beneficiaries, 6,035 social beneficiaries and 1,914 poor and near-poor households, 2,700 workers who are not able to return home for Tet. The city’s Association of the Blind now also mobilizes businesses to give Tet gifts for members. Do Van Cau, Chairman of the city’s Association of the Blind said that this would be a motivation for the blind to rise up.

Thanks to the attention and help of the society, many needy people have made efforts to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. This is seen as a great success in the cause of ensuring the city’s social welfare.
