Ben Cat district’s Women’s Union
has actively implemented the program of “Women helping each other in economic
development” in many forms and mobilized the “Saving Day for Poor Women”…This
has helped women herein escape poverty and get rich. 
My Phuoc township’s Women Union’s “piggybank savings” model has contributing to providing loans for many women
In 2011, the local Women’s Union has provided a loan of nearly VND73.5bln on credit from the Bank for Social Policies, Oxfam and other sources for more than 1,300 members to develop homebased business. Upon this, since 2006, there have been thousands of female-headed households free from poverty.
The district’s Women’s Union has also mobilized nearly VND303mln from the Saving Day for Poor Women”, or 200% of the set target. “Well-off women give help to needy ones” model, loan-rotating groups, saving groups…have lured the involvement of many women. Yearly, there are 20-30 such groups established with more than VND2bln on non-interest loans gave for needy women.
According to Nguyen Thi Anh Diep, vice-chairwoman of the district’s Women’s Union, in addition to the loan support programs, the union has attached special importance to vocational training and job introduction for women, especially those who live in the rural areas and in the areas with economic restructure.
In 2011, the district’s Women’s Union has also teamed up with the district’s Division of Economics, Division of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Agricultural Promotion Center…to organize training courses on how to grow mushroom; tend rubber trees, ornamental trees…; cooperated with relevant agencies to introduce jobs to 1,000 women.
Thanks to the above mentioned efforts, since 2006, there have been more than 3,000 women herein escaping poverty and getting a stable life.
Mrs.Anh added that the district’s Women’s Union will further check and strive to give help to all female-headed households with difficult circumstance. The union will also create many new models to help the local women escape poverty and avoid the fall into poverty again. This is also one of the union’s targets for the new tenure.
