Offering timely support to vulnerable women

Many heart-breaking cases of domestic violence have recently occurred in the province. Most of the victims are female workers who came to Binh Duong to earn their living. Agencies, departments and sectors in the province have offered timely support to the above cases.

Over the past time, provincial Women's Unions at all levels focused on making law dissemination at the grassroots level with contents on gender equality, the Law on Marriage and Family, the Law on Children, policies on children's rights, the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence... This activity aimed at gradually raising women's awareness of the law. Many good models are emerging to support cases of violence. Specifically, there are the models of “Women with the law” club, “Shelter”, “Reliable address”, “Female workers at lodging facilities”...

Officials of Tan Uyen city’s Women's Union meet relatives and ask for them to give gifts for Mrs. L., a victim of domestic violence

In addition, the model of helping misguided women to mend their ways, quickly integrating into the community was also implemented very effectively in Ben Cat town, Phu Giao district, Thu Dau Mot city...over the past time. Nguyen Thi Le Hong, Vice-Chairwoman of Phu Giao district’s Women's Union said that the district has also paid more attention to caring for vulnerable women and children with difficult circumstances. Support for female criminals who have completed their sentence and reintegrated into the community was assigned to each commune...

In terms of supporting victims of violence and disadvantaged women, Truong Thanh Nga, Chairwoman of provincial Women's Union said that care and protection of children and vulnerable women is part of the mission and responsibility of the association. “We regularly offer help to victims of domestic violence cases, single mothers, women with difficult circumstances…Currently, we are continuing advocating for the case of Mrs. L. being abused by her husband. One important thing that we want to remind: If you are victims of domestic violence and vulnerable women, don't hide the painful events you encounter because being afraid of public opinion and bad reputation. Please, boldly speak up so that we can quickly access information for effective support…”, Mrs. Nga shared.

According to Dr. Dong Van Toan, Director of Thu Dau Mot University’s psychology program, the timely support and “Reliable model” of Women's Unions at all levels in the province have become a temporary "salvation" for those suffering from domestic violence. However, in order to make more changes, helping those who suffer from violence recover both physically and mentally as well as minimizing the situation of domestic violence, more solutions and efforts of all-level authorities and social organizations are needed.
