On the afternoon of April 22, the Executive Committee of provincial Buddhist Sangha implemented a “rice ATM” program for needy people at Hoi Khanh pagoda in TDM city.
Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council, Chief of the VBS’s Southern Office cum Head of provincial Buddhist Sangha said that more than VND10 tons of rice was mobilized for the “rice ATM” program while affirming that there will be sufficient rice free of charge for needy people during the Covid-19 fight.
The program is expected to dispense free rice for poor people within 7 days from April 22. After the 7 days, the Executive Committee of provincial Buddhist Sangha will continue mobilizing rice from many resources for the poor if they still need.
*On the morning of the same day, the People’s Committees, mass organizations of Phu Tho ward and TDM city together with some units put the first “rice ATM” of the province into operation.
The “rice ATM” was installed by Vu Tru Xanh Joint Stock Company at the People’s Committee of Phu Tho ward. As of April 22, many units supported 40 tons of rice for the poor via the “rice ATM”.
Duong Vo Duy Bao, Vice-Chairman of Phu Tho ward’s People’s Committee said that the “rice ATM” was put into operation from April 22 to support needy people during the Covid-19 pandemic. Accordingly, each poor person can collect 3 kilograms of rice to survive the pandemic.
