Early April 2, provincial Red Cross Society held a conference to review the movement of “Tet for poor people and Agent Orange victims” for the period of 2009 and 2018; its activities in 2017 and define orientations, tasks for 2018. Attending the event were Nguyen Thanh Liem, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Dang Minh Hung, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee; representative of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross; collectives and individuals with contributions to the local social charity activities.
Under the movement of “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, provincial Red Cross Society offered 388,462 gifts, 1,019 scholarships to poor pupils and students; supported medical examination and treatment for 650 poor people; built 55 “red cross” houses; donated 13 mother cows to the poor…with a total expense of more than VND134billion.
The society’s activities last year continued being strengthened. The whole province organized 93 voluntary blood donation campaigns and collected 17,779 units of blood or 102% of the set target. In 2018, provincial Red Cross Society and its branches will continue effectively carrying out the movement of “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address”; replicate outstanding humanitarian models; strive to collect 18,300 units of blood…
Speaking at the conference, Mr.Hung praised achievements done by provincial Red Cross Society over the past years while asking for the society to further improve operational forms, uphold practical humanitarian models; honor individuals with contributions to humanitarian activities, coordinate with units to provide free medical check-ups for the poor.
On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society awarded the memento “For the humanitarian cause” to 54 individuals, the certificates of merit to 5 collectives, 23 individuals with excellent achievements in the movement of “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims” for the period of 2009-2018 and 112 collectives, 141 individuals with excellent achievements in the local Red Cross movements in 2017. Provincial Mobilization Board for Voluntary Blood Donation also presented the certificates of merit to 172 outstanding collectives and individuals in 2017.
