Thousands of paper bags are folded by old calendars, magazines and so on and are granted to small traders at markets in a bid to encourage everyone to use the environmentally friendly product. It is one of lively activities of Thu Dau Mot town Youth Union’s youth in this year’s volunteer summer campaign.

Old calendars, magazines, newspapers… have become useful. Many parents are surprised to see their children collecting old papers to make up paper bags. Linh, a unionist of Chanh Nghia ward said “In response to the movement of folding paper bags in replacement for nylon ones, we take old papers of calendars, newspapers to fold paper bags in a bid to protect environment”.
Nguyen Hong Nhung, vice secretary of the town youth union, said the movement of folding paper bags is held in 2 forms of collecting materials and folding paper bags. With the 2 forms, nearly 5,000 paper bags are granted to small traders at Dinh Hoa, Phu Tho and Thu Dau Mot markets.
Many housewives get accustomed to using nylon bags. However, since being mobilized to use paper bags, they have started changing their habits.
The youths’ small deeds have contributed to raise people’s awareness on environmental protection. However, it is necessary to have solutions for producing self destroying bags in replacement for nylon bags to create sustainable measures for environmental protection.
