Mount Kanlaon, located on Negros Island, is one of the Philippines’ 24 active volcanoes. It last erupted in December 2024, prompting the evacuation of nearby communities. Since then, Kanlaon has remained under Alert Level 3 on a five-level scale.
The new eruption occurred at 5:51am on April 8 (local time), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
All residents living within the 4–6km danger zone had already been evacuated during the previous eruption and are prepared to respond to the current situation.
