The entire Phu Giao district has 12 ethnic groups including 664 households of 2,847 people. The biggest ethnic group is Khmer group with 244 households, mainly living in An Binh commune. To boost up the bloc of great national unity, the locality has over years paid much attention to supporting and investing in the region of local ethnic people. Especially, since launching the Government’s Program 135, the district has launched many projects of making rural traffic roads, offering productive land, houses and means for local ethnic people to help them escape poverty by their labor.

Aside from life improvement for the local ethnic people, the district party committee and authority has paid much attention to improving spiritual life for the local ethnic people through building infrastructure facilities and holding exchanges between ethnic groups. Through implementing the movement of “All people unity to build cultural life in residential areas”, Phu Giao has upheld typical cultural characters of local ethnic people as well as eradicated many backward habits and customs among local ethnic groups.

From the above investment policies, the local ethnic people’s life has gradually changed positively. Kim Niem, vice chairman of the district Fatherland Front Committee, said “Compared to 5 years ago, local ethnic people’s life has seen changes with about 70% of rich local households. The results are thanks to the Party and State’s investment and attention as well as local ethnic people’s will of poverty escape”.

Regarding changes of local ethnic people, Kim Minh Thanh, a Khmer person in An Binh commune, said “Over years, local ethnic people’s life has been improved, thanks to assistance from the party and state”.

With right investment and attention from the party and state, the district’s ethnic people have over years contributed to development of the district in particular and Binh Duong province in general.
