Phu Giao district Women Union helps members ameliorating living

In recent time, Phu Giao district Women Union has implemented the movement of building up families of “5 No, 3 Clean” launched by Central Vietnamese Women Union and got many important achievements. Activities of family economy supporting, poverty reducing, and life stabilizing have been focused to assist many households in bettering their living.From “5 No, 3 Clean”…According to Phu Giao district Women Union’s Chairwoman Pham Thi Hong Tham, one significant meaning of the movement “5 No, 3 Clean” implementation is the improved female member’s awareness of Party and the State’s policies, legal documents relating to women and children, parenting knowledge, and criminal and social evil prevention, which have refined local common environment.To obtain these results, right after the direction of provincial Women Union, Phu Giao district Women Union disseminated the plan to 11 communes, towns, in which Tan Hiep commune was chosen to be the key locality for implementing and experience learning.Besides, the Union combined the implementation with activities of “Constructing happy families” Club, national action plans, project “Educating 5 million mother on parenting”, women team of not having the 3rd child etc. to effectuate well the movement. Thereby, criteria of “5 No” (no law violations, no social evils, no domestic violence, no having the 3rd child, no malnourished children and children leaving school) and “3 Clean” (clean houses, clean alleys, clean kitchen) have been supported by majority of members.In addition, the Union cooperated with Dutch Lady Milk Company to implement the educational project of nutritional knowledge “Best nutrition for children to become smart” at 11 localities. The project was to convey and exchange parenting knowledge between the Union and female members having kids of 0 – 4 years old in order to helps children growing optimally. …To supporting family economy developmentIn recent years, the district Women Union has assisted its members in economy enhancing, living stabilizing through many ways. Since the beginning of this year, the Union continued to carried out project “Giving strength to poor women” to give more spiritual strength for disadvantaged women to better their living at An Linh commune and other localities. The Union coordinated with regional Youth Union to establish 2 female groups at An Linh and An Thai commune. These groups includes 50 female members sewing exported shoes at home to have a daily income of VND100,000. This model has promoted vocational training for women as well as helped local women to earn money. Since the beginning of this year, the Union has also persuaded 3,235 stable women to lend capital worth totally nearly VND1.7bln without interest to 667 disadvantaged women. Additionally, 179 saving groups including 4,572 members were established to mobilize capital worth totally VND530mln to support 179 women. The Union has also supported female members through other capital sources and Social Policy Bank.Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong, a female member at Bo La hamlet, Phuoc Hoa commune, is one person took out loans from Social Policy Bank. She said, she got married in 2003 and had difficult living. Thanks to joining Women Union, she was introduced to borrow money at Social Policy Bank, was counseled to develop family economy. Her current 5000m2 cucumber garden creates monthly revenue of VND10-15mln. According to Ms. Tham, at the year start, the quantity of female member’s poor households was 432/940, accounting for 46%; the number of near-poor households was 338/982, making up 34.4%. at the present, 100% female member’s poor households were granted loans, advised about family economy development, thus many women have escaped from poverty, contributing significantly to the district’s hunger eliminating and poverty reducing.Reported by T.Binh – Translated by Ngoc Huynh
