Many projects and programs on environmental protection have been launched by Phu Giao district Natural Resources and Environment Bureau in collaboration with other agencies and sectors. Particularly, the program “Dredging drains, clearing flows of inner routes” was a practical one implemented 3 years ago and responded positively by majority people.
As the administrative economic center of Phu Giao district, Phuoc Vinh town has invested in building and upgrading central inner routes. Thus, the urban face of Phuoc Vinh has changed everyday; population density has also increasingly grown, the number of residential areas, shops rose… However, the pressure of population growth makes the environment become problematic, especially generated solid waste is increasing. In addition, construction activities causing soil, stone, sand, gravel… have polluted the environment and affected people’s life and health.

This situation was reported municipal People's Council meetings by the people, and was noticed by Phuoc Vinh People's Committee. Since 2013, municipal Natural Resources and Environment Bureau has cooperated with relevant agencies and Phuoc Vinh People's Committee to survey sewer blockage of each route, plan and carry out sewer dredging, flow clearing to clean the environment of inner roads.
Phu Giao has disbursed the district budget for the construction. In 2013, Phu Giao invested over VND1,222 billion in sewer dredging of Doc Lap street; in 2014, more than VND2.121 billion were invested in sewerage dredging of Bui Thi Xuan street, 19/8 street, Hung Vuong and Tran Hung Dao street. This year, the district has disbursed nearly VND740 million for sewerage dredging of Tran Hung Dao street.
The program “Dredging drains, clearing flows of inner routes” of Phuoc Vinh town has gained confidence from the people. Tan Hiep commune is an example. The commune has coordinated with municipal Farmers' Union to launch the program “Clean houses, gardens, and streets” among members and farmers. Tan Hiep commune boosted the propaganda of environmental protection among people through many forms, such as: launching the program, sanitizing, clearing sewerage, planting trees, dredging canals, preserving agricultural environment in rural areas… Tan Hiep people collected garbage along DH507 route and urged people to join hands for environmental actions.
At the present, environmental protection in Phu Giao district has been one meaningful work to be done regularly. Phu Giao people, especially, youth union members have been pioneers in environmental sanitation, coping with climate change and new rural construction. Not only Tan Hiep or Phuoc Vinh, but also numbers of 300 persons participating in 100 programs of sewerage dredging, rural roads clearance; repairing more than 20km of roads… with a total expense of more than VND2.1 billion… were achievements of Phu Giao in environmental protection to generate a healthy urban environment.
