Phu Giao students safely go back to school

Returning to school to have face-to-face learning is the expectation of both teachers and students. Currently, Phu Giao district is a level-1 area in terms of pandemic, thus the district People's Committee instructed units and schools to organize direct teaching in the "new normal" state. This is also the first locality in the province to have students of grades 7, 8, and 9 learning face-to-face after a long time of online learning since the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.

Students from Tran Hung Dao Junior High School (Phu Giao district) return to school after online learning period.

 Diverse forms of teaching activities

Based on the directive of the District People's Committee on "safe and flexible adaption in teaching activities, effectively controlling the Covid-19 pandemic", from Nov 29, the district's 9th-grade students have returned to school. Then, on Dec 6, 8th graders; and on Dec 13, 7th graders from junior high schools in Phu Giao district also went to school to have direct learning activities.

Being back at school, students feel very comfortable and excited. Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a student of class 7A8, An Binh Junior High School, said: “I am very happy to see my friends and teachers again. During online learning time, my teachers were very dedicated. When I went back to school, the teachers re-explained lessons that I and my classmates did not understand during the online learning period, helping me understand my lessons better. Teachers also reminded us to follow the "5K" message of the Ministry of Health, not to gather in large numbers to ensure the Covid-19 prevention and control.

Nguyen Van Su, Principal of An Binh Junior High School, said that most parents and students agree with the face-to-face teaching. Currently, there are only a few students in each grade who cannot go to school due to health reasons. “These students are still not disadvantaged, because the school has been funded by benefactors to install cameras for 30 classrooms. Therefore, students at home can follow their class's lessons", said Su.

To implement adaptive, safe and flexible teaching, students of grades 7, 8, 9 of Tran Hung Dao Junior High School also returned to school at the same time as An Binh Junior High School. However, in order to meet the teaching schedule, the school organizes direct teaching of natural subjects while providing online lessons of some social subjects. This is an important school year to 9th graders, hence they get more attention from teachers. In addition to face-to-face teaching, teachers give online teaching to tutor weak students, and advanced lessons of subjects of the 10th grades entrance exam to good students.

To strengthen safety

Returning to school is a valuable time for schools to review and complete student's knowledge, especially for senior pupils. According to the direction of the District Office of Education and Training, schools take advantage of this golden time of direct teaching to give basic and core contents according to the adjusted guiding documents of Department of Education - Training based on conditions of schools and student groups.

During this time, teachers also devote their best efforts to convey knowledge to students when they learn directly at school. When students return to school, teachers show a high sense of responsibility for the learning of students. While teaching new knowledge, teachers review old lessons during online learning to ensure the quality and effectiveness of education.

Nguyen Thi Kim Anh, Principal of Tran Hung Dao Junior High School, said that the school has measures to strengthen and enhance the quality of teaching and learning as students return to school. Accordingly, the school reviews and evaluates students' results of online learning to adjust education plan to suit the actual conditions and the Covid-19 development.

Safety and disease prevention control at school are also taken seriously by schools. Before students return to school, each school developed an appropriate and safe teaching plan to ensure the prevention and control of the Covid-19. Truong Quoc Huy, Deputy Head of Education and Training Office of Phu Giao district, said that schools are responsible for themselves, self-assess their safety level as receiving students back to school. Accordingly, schools strictly comply with regulations on prevention and control of Covid-19 of the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health. Regarding methods to keep fixed distance, students follow the "5K" message of Ministry of Health. The school arranges different break times for each grades and regulates play area of each class. Schools, based on the actual situation, can combine both direct teaching of the main program, while maintaining online lessons of cultural subjects...
