By March 31st, pollution ratio at Ba Bo channel (at borderline of Binh Hoa commune, Thuan An district, Binh Duong province and Binh Chieu ward, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh city) has reduced than last year. However, pollution is still heavy in the area as concluded by province’s leaders after their inspection on March 29th.
The inspection team was at the site of 3 Mieng drainage in bordering place of Binh Hoa commune, Thuan An district, Binh Duong province with Binh Chieu ward, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh city. The inspection showed that waste water was not as dark as before but the strong odor remained.
Local people reported of the odor especially on sudden rainy days or too dry sunny days.
According to our inspection, along the flow of Ba Bo channel, the odor appeared not only originated from untreated industrial waste water but also from daily water waste from households of local people. Moreover, a relative amount of rubbish ended up in the flow.
Despite current pollution, efforts of local authorities are worthy. Up today, Binh Duong Water Supply Sewerage Environment Co. Ltd. (BIWASE) has collected over 18,000 tons of rubbish from the channel and completed the first stage of rubbish processing from the source to the zone managed by P&G at 922 meters long. The dredging of 907 meters of the channel from P&G to Dong An industrial zone.
Currently, BIWASE has proposed its project of dyke reinforcement for Ba Bo channel to prevent voluntarily rubbish thrown away by public people.
Meanwhile, the inspection team has checked the situation in Waste water processing factory in Song Than Industrial Zone. At the site, the team valuates good conduct of the factory connecting 132 enterprises to the concentration processing. However, under assessment of Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the leak of waste water still remains at 31 enterprises that conceal their pouring of untreated waste water to the environment.
As for local authority of Thuan An and functional agencies, the measures are not strong enough to resolve pollution while the big amount of rubbish continued to emerge.
As a matter of fact, People’s Committee Deputy Chair Pham Hoang Ha directed local authority to control the waste water tanks of the factory.
