Power down for 60 minutes and 365 days

In response to Earth Hour 2015, the provincial Youth Union and Binh Duong Elelctricity Company co-held a program named “Power down for 60 minutes and 365 days” in a move against global warming.

Thrift and effective using of energy will contribute to protect the Earth, fight against climate change that is strongly responded by citizens of the world. Firstly launched in Sydney in 2007, the Earth Hour campaign has thus far become the global campaign in the purpose of joining hands to solve issues relating to energy, climate change and educate people to save electricity and protect environment.

According to the concerted program between the provincial Youth Union and Binh Duong Electricity Company, 2 units will open a campaign to spur dissemination by hanging slogans along to key streets. In addition, 2 units will mobilize agencies, enterprises and households to switch off lights and unnecessary electric equipments for one hour, starting at 8:30 p.m. on March 28 and simultaneously hold significant activities against climate change during 365 days.

The Earth Hour campaign 2015 will attract participation of numerous youths and unionists and people. This good deed will also lure attendance of students and pupils. Starting in the morning of March 25, students under the provincial green volunteer team wore T-shirts printed 60+, divided into many groups to disseminate and distribute leaflets and postcards on environmental protection by turning off unnecessary electric equipments.  

Aside from promulgation and distribution of leaflets, volunteer students of universities and colleges across the province joined in the activity named “power down motorbike engine for 25 seconds” at crossroads in Thu Dau Mot city and Thuan An town and more. This good deed took place from March 25-28. Pham Vu Thao Ngoc, student of Binh Duong University for Technology and Economics, member of the provincial green volunteer team said “In the recent years, Earth Hour is one of significant events responded by youths. I’m very happy to join in the good deed”.

After the mentioned activity chains, at 4:30p.m on March 28, numerous local youths will continue to carry out a parade through streets such as Yersin, Bach Dang, August Revolution. Especially, the opening ceremony of Earth Hour 2015 held at the hub of Thu DAu Mot city starting on 6p.m will include many activities such as stage decoration, recycle models, picture drawing, dance, fashion show contest and so on. This is a dissemination to improve youths and unionists and people’s awareness on environmental protection, energy saving and climate change control.
