PPC Chairman Tran Thanh Liem: School year 2018-2019 will have no night classes

 

On August 21, Tran Thanh Liem, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee, presided over a meeting to assess Department of Education and Training’s preparation for school year 2018-2019.

In the new school year, the province had 454,857 students at all levels, an increase of 34,235 students, the most in elementary schools. As the number of students increased, the sector lacked 884 employees, including 663 teachers. In this new school year, 23 new schools were put into operation, with the total cost of over VND1,090 billion, and provincial budget spent VND113 billion on repairing material facilities and purchasing teaching equipment. Up to now, most schools have well met learning needs of students, are ready to start new school year.

In order to ensure new good-quality school year, the sector suggested provincial leaders to allocate English teachers of vocational training, continuing education centers at districts, towns for high schools; approve re-contracting of officials and teachers of the previous school year; allow units, localities to sign short-term contracts for some vacant positions in the 2018-2019 academic year...

At the meeting, Mr. Liem instructed the education and training sector to collaborate with localities to arrange students and eliminate night classes caused by overcrowded schools. The province agreed to supplement schools having increasing number of students with tables and chairs; Party Committee, government of districts, towns and city needed to focus on leading and directing educational activities in their locality, accelerating construction progress of schools and classrooms, paying attention to inspecting the system of latrines, clean water; supervising and inspecting school kitchens. Department of Education and Training needed to instruct and supervise extra classes outside schools. The department had to know exactly actual situation, remind schools to prepare well the new school year opening, perform well tasks of school year 2018-2019, while ensuring educational quality, which is higher than the previous school year. .
