Practical effects from the "Humanitarian Tet" movement

For many years, the "Humanitarian Tet" (Tết Nhân ái) movement has been carried out by the Red Cross Society in Binh Duong province during the Lunar New Year to help care for and support individuals facing various challenges. This year, the movement continues to be actively promoted by Red Cross Associations at all levels throughout the province and successfully mobilized numerous societal resources to join their efforts, resulting in tangible benefits for those in need.

This year's "Humanitarian Tet" movement also awards hundreds of meaningful scholarships to support students having difficult circumstances.

Build a united community

The "Humanitarian Tet" movement builds upon the achievements of the "Tet for the Poor and Agent Orange Victims" initiative, which was launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in 1999. Since 2023, and particularly during the Lunar New Year of 2025, the "Humanitarian Tet" movement has been widely implemented by the Provincial Red Cross at all levels throughout the province and has successfully engaged people from all walks of life, encouraging their active participation and yielding positive results.

From the resources contributed by agencies, units, businesses, charitable organizations, and benefactors inside and outside the province, the Red Cross at all levels in the province has organized many meaningful programs and activities to give Tet gifts to the blind, the disabled, victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, humanitarian addresses, disadvantaged students, children whose parents died due to the Covid-19 pandemic, orphans, lonely elderly people, workers far from home, and people having difficult circumstances in the localities.

The Provincial Red Cross, in collaboration with the Provincial People's Committee, various departments, branches, and organizations, organized the "Humanitarian Tet" event for 2025 at the provincial level. Additionally, this year, the Provincial Red Cross is coordinating programs in all 9 districts and cities within the province, distributing thousands of Tet gifts to those in need of support.

Campaign results double the planned target

According to the initial targets set in the plan for the "Humanitarian Tet" movement during the Tet festival 2025, the Red Cross at all levels within the province aimed to mobilize and distribute at least 30,000 gifts to the poor, those living in hardship, and vulnerable individuals. The total value of these humanitarian activities is expected to reach 15 billion VND. Additionally, the Provincial Red Cross mobilized resources to organize a "Humanitarian Tet" program at the provincial level, benefiting 500 individuals; also provided support for nine districts and cities to conduct local programs, each aimed at assisting 300 beneficiaries.

To achieve the set plan, contributing to the province in effectively taking care of people having difficult circumstances and vulnerable groups in society every time Tet comes, the Provincial Red Cross Society has focused on implementing, directing and guiding all levels of associations in the province to carry out the "Humanitarian Tet" movement in a practical and effective manner, with many meaningful and creative activities; connecting many collectives, units, businesses, and philanthropists to join hands and accompany in specific programs and activities of the movement.

The joint effort of our community has played a significant role in promoting humanitarian values, fostering love among people, and showcasing the traditional beauty of our nation. This was clearly demonstrated by the achievements of this year's "Humanitarian Tet" movement. The number of Tet gifts mobilized and distributed, as well as the total value generated by the movement, have all exceeded our initial goals.

According to statistics from the Provincial Red Cross Society, for the "Humanitarian Tet" movement during the Tet Festival 2025, the Provincial Red Cross Society at all levels organized many visits and presented 68,520 Tet gifts to people having difficult circumstances, victims of Agent Orange, the blind, the disabled, the lonely elderly, orphans, disadvantaged students, children whose parents died due to the Covid-19 pandemic, disadvantaged workers far from home... in and outside the province. Each gift includes necessities and cash, worth from 400,000 VND to 1.5 million VND/gift; with the total value of the movement reaching over 36.8 billion VND. Of which, the provincial level awarded 6,100 gifts, with a total value of over 5.1 billion VND (each gift worth from 1-1.5 million VND); awarded 480 scholarships, with a total value of over 2.4 billion VND (each gift worth 5 million VND in cash and a gift worth 500,000 VND). At the district and grassroots levels, 62,420 gifts were presented, with a total value of over 31.7 billion VND.

In particular, in addition to supporting cash and common necessities, in this year's movement, the association at all levels has implemented many forms of helping people with sustainable development. Specifically, activities such as: Donating houses for poor people; giving scholarships to students in difficult circumstances; donating clothes and household items; giving books to poor students; providing meals for poor patients in hospital; organizing "Zero-VND Tet Market" sessions.

In addition to the "Humanitarian Tet Market" session at the provincial level, the Red Cross at all levels in the province also organized 83 "Humanitarian Tet Market" sessions, "Humanitarian Tet" programs at the district, commune, ward and equivalent levels, serving the poor to visit, shop, and choose goods with free shopping vouchers; built new houses and handed over Red Cross houses to 3 disadvantaged families (inside and outside the province) to celebrate Tet happily in new, warm houses...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, President of Provincial Red Cross Society, stated that the objectives and content of the movement align with the nation's charitable traditions, thereby inspiring a spirit of "mutual love and support" among all Vietnamese people. Additionally, she emphasized the early, coordinated, and proactive participation of the association at all levels; diversifying methods of awareness-raising and resource mobilization for the movement. Furthermore, the association officials have shown initiative in monitoring and understanding the situation to facilitate effective leadership and execution of the movement.
