US President Donald Trump has announced that his upcoming meeting with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un slated for late February will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The US president wrote on his Twitter page that his representatives had just left the DPRK after a very productive meeting and an agreed upon time and date for the second summit  with Kim Jong-un.

According to him, the meeting will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam on February 27 and 28.

“I look forward to seeing Chairman Kim and advancing the cause of peace,” Trump wrote.

Earlier on February 6, asked to comment on the US President’s remark in his latest State of the Union address on the upcoming summit, the spokesperson of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang said Vietnam welcomes the meeting and strongly supports dialogues to maintain peace, security and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

“Vietnam stands ready to actively contribute to and cooperate with relevant sides to ensure the success for the second US-DPRK summit, thus helping achieve the above-mentioned goal,” she affirmed.
