Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 3 praised nearly 40 students who made high achievements at national, regional and international exams, urging them to make greater efforts to drive the country to the fourth industrial revolution.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the outstanding students

Speaking to the outstanding students at a ceremony in Hanoi, the PM expressed his admiration for those living in difficult circumstances or remote and far-flung areas.

He also lauded the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) for its changes in training methods, contributing to improving Vietnam’s performance at regional and international competitions.

The Government leader suggested the ministry make more comprehensive changes, especially higher education models, in order to train world-renowned engineers, technicians and men of culture.

According to MoET Minister Phung Xuan Nha, 27 out of 28 students of seven Vietnamese teams to regional and international physics, chemistry, biology, math and computer Olympiads in 2016 won prizes.

Twelve Vietnamese students were also sent to the International Conference on Research in Science and Technology, he said.

The minister said Vietnam has shown the higher sense of responsibility for Olympiads through hosting the 27 International Biology Olympiad with the participation of 252 students from 68 countries and territories.

Meanwhile, the best five students at national exams hail from the Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students in the central province of Nghe An, the High School for Gifted Students of the Hanoi National University, the Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students in the northern province of Nam Dinh and the Pham Van Dong High School in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.

The ceremony aims to honour the achievements made by the students and their teachers while raising students’ responsibility for the country’s educational reform as well as national development.
