In the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, the responsibility and role of doctors in the treatment and care of infection cases is especially important. Along with the public health system that is trying to save Covid-19 patients, the private health system is also ready to join in by helping many patients to be cured.
Joint efforts
According to statistics from the health sector, the province currently has four private hospitals participating in the treatment of Covid-19 patients, especially the treatment of foreigner Covid-19 patients including Hoan My Van Phuc Hospital 1, Phuong Chi General Hospital, Binh Duong Medic Hospital (in Thu Dau Mot city) and My Phuoc General Hospital (in Ben Cat town) with a total of 599 patients being treated.

Hoan My Van Phuc General Hospital 1 (in Thu Dau Mot city) is one out of four private hospitals receiving Covid-19 patients for treatments
At Hoan My Van Phuc General Hospital 1, the Covid-19 patient treatment area has 80 beds arranged in a separate building. The wards are well-ventilated and fully equipped with equipment for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Bao Long, Director of Hoan My Van Phuc Hospital 1, said that after receiving the decision of the provincial People's Committee, Hoan My Van Phuc General Hospital 1 quickly converted its functions and established a treatment area of Covid-19 patients for foreigners with a total capacity of 100 hospital beds including 20 ICU beds. In the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic, the hospital's staff of more than 55 doctors and 170 nurses are serving to treat the infected to reduce the load on the public health system.
“The professional procedures for the treatment process are developed by the hospital based on the guidelines of Ministry of Health with adequate training for doctors and nurses on duty. Supporting services and processes are also thoughtfully prepared from periodical and unexpected disinfection spraying to the collection and treatment of waste, washing process, meal provision, delivery and receipt of medicines for patients. The hospital is collecting and treating 76 F0 patients, of whom 10 are foreign experts and 21 have been discharged from the hospital with no deaths,” said Dr. Long.
Similarly, Phuong Chi General Hospital was also approved by the provincial People's Committee to convert a part of its function into a Covid-19 treatment area for foreigners. On that basis, the hospital operates under the "split hospital" model both receiving and treating Covid-19 patients and performing regular medical examination and treatment tasks. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Mien in charge of communications at Phuong Chi General Hospital, said that after receiving the decision from the provincial People's Committee, within a few days, the hospital rushed to renovate and complete the Covid-19 patient treatment area to concentrate all human resources and medical equipment to put into operation and to meet the needs of care and treatment in the context of complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Ms. Mien added that the hospital has put into operation 50 beds and is collecting treatment for 49 F0 patients on the first and second floors of the triage treatment model. The hospital has been proactive in procuring necessary drugs for treatment, equipment, medical supplies, testing chemicals, and biological products to serve the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
Continual call
Assessing the capacity of private hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients, Dr. Nguyen Hong Chuong, Director of the Department of Health, said that currently the above 4 private hospitals are capable of participating in care and treating Covid-19 patients on the 1st and 2nd floors with moderate symptoms. The Department of Health hopes and believes that many other private hospitals will continue to register to participate in the treatment of Covid-19 patients to soon control the Covid-19 epidemic, contributing to reducing the rate of serious Covid-19 patients and deaths.
The call for the private health system to participate in the treatment of Covid-19 patients has also been directed by the Standing Provincial Party Committee and assigned to the health sector to review hospitals and private medical facilities that are eligible for treatment of F0 to complete the procedure and license the treatment. In addition, the health sector also reviewed biological products and medical supplies, ready to provide aid and appropriate transfer to each locality to carry out disease prevention and control.
Previously, the Department of Health also sent a document to the directors of private hospitals and clinics in the province on mobilizing forces to participate in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic. According to the Department of Health, the epidemic situation is very complicated. The number of Covid-19 cases continued to increase and there were many outbreaks in 205 businesses. Meanwhile, some medical staff have contracted Covid-19. Up to now, the health sector has advised the establishment of 4 field hospitals to collect and treat Covid-19 patients by assigning tasks to general and specialized hospitals to receive and treat Covid-19 patients.
In the context of new Covid-19 cases showing no signs of decreasing, the health sector still has to mobilize a large number of personnel to participate in vaccination, tracing, sampling, etc., leading to a serious shortage of medical staffs to serve the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Therefore, the Department of Health asked the directors of private hospitals and clinics in the province to support human resources with medical expertise to be ready to participate in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic. Specifically, each private hospital supports 2 to 5 doctors, 5 to 10 nurses and technicians; each private polyclinic supports 1-2 doctors, 2-4 nurses, technicians to participate in Covid-19 prevention and control.
