Proactively prevent damage caused by floods and high tides

On October 2, the province experienced prolonged heavy rain combined with high tides, causing many low-lying riverside areas to be locally flooded. According to the report of Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Ben Cat Town, Thu Dau Mot City, and Thuan An City, high tides on October 1 and 2 caused flooding in many areas.

Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Director of Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, said the cause of widespread heavy rain is due to the tropical convergence zone with an axis at about 14 - 16 degrees North latitude, strong southwest monsoon. In addition, due to the high tide on Saigon River, the highest peak recorded was 1.71m (at 7:10 p.m. on October 1) and 1.69m (on the morning of October 2, at 7:00 a.m.).

It is forecast that the highest tide on Saigon River would reach from 1.72m to 1.76m on October 8. In localities, there will be quite a lot of rain from 70mm to 150mm. To cope with high tides and flooding, in addition to solutions of the authorities, people need to regularly monitor warnings and news, forecasts about the evolution of high tides and the risk of flooding to proactively prevent and deal with flooding, especially during peak tide times.
