Proposal made to incorporate intergenerational self-help clubs into national poverty reduction program

On the morning of May 23, the Provincial Department of Health convened a conference to review the project aimed at replicating the intergenerational self-help club model in the province from 2021 to 2025.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Quach Trung Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, stated: “Currently, the province hosts 133 intergenerational self-help clubs with a total of 10,486 members; among them, 4,804 are elderly individuals aged 60 and above, 4,684 are members of the women's union, and 998 are individuals facing financial hardships.”

By early 2025, all communes, wards, and towns had established and operationalized intergenerational self-help clubs. Over the years, this model has proven effective in providing both material and spiritual support to the elderly, while also fostering a spirit of mutual love and assistance within the community.

At the conference, delegates exchanged experiences regarding the implementation of the project and urged relevant agencies to incorporate the intergenerational self-help club model into the national target program for poverty alleviation, rural development, and elder care. Specifically, agencies should provide supplementary start-up funding, facilitating access to revolving capital for clubs to assist members facing challenges.

On this occasion, the Provincial Department of Health conferred certificates of merit to 12 collectives and 19 individuals who demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in executing the project to replicate the intergenerational self-help club model in the province for 2021 - 2025.
