With the determination of bringing people's lives back to the "new normal" state, the province has accelerated the progress of vaccinations against Covid-19 in recent days, increasing vaccine coverage, reaching herd immunity and preparing a plan to live with the pandemic.
Speeding up Covid-19 vaccinations
According to data on the national vaccination portal, as of 4 p.m. on September 4, Binh Duong province had 1,134,176 people vaccinated against Covid-19, including 1,088,096 getting the first shot and 46,080 with the full two shots. In fact, this number is higher than statistics and the rate of daily vaccination is increasing, especially from September 2 when the province has administered Sinopharm's Vero Cell vaccines. According to uncompleted statistics, vaccination teams in the province administered about 88,300 shots on September 3 and more than 204,400 shots on September 4. Many injection sites organized injections until 22:00, so some places had to input data overnight.
People in Thuan An city’s Binh Chuan ward wait in line for their turn to get Covid-19 vaccine
As of now, Thuan An city’s Vinh Phu ward has so far had more than 21,700 people vaccinated against Covid-19, accounting for about 80% of the local population. Among them, more than 20,200 have received their first shot and more than 1,500 with the full two shots. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chau, Chairwoman of Vinh Phu ward’s People's Committee said that from a locality where Covid-19 vaccinations were slow because of the lack of human resources, the ward boldly proposed the city’s Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control to organize the local injection sites. After more than 2 weeks of implementation, the local vaccination forces have completed its vaccination plan in the spirit of the earliest and safest vaccination for people.
Preparing plan to live with pandemic
Currently, the province has about 2.6 million people. To achieve herd immunity, living with the pandemic, the province needs to give vaccines against Covid-19 to more than 2 million people. As of September 1, the province was allocated a total of 2,066,060 doses of Covid-19 vaccines by the Ministry of Health, in which the most is Sinopharm's Vero Cell vaccine with 1,023,000 doses, followed by Astra Zeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Medical Director of Binh Duong Emergency Resuscitation Field Hospital said that if completing its plan to inject 1 million doses of Sinopharm's Vero Cell vaccine this week, the province will have 70% of the local population vaccinated. Therefore, the province needs to have a plan on deploying "vaccine passports" to live with the pandemic, bringing people's lives back to the "new normal" state. The "new normal" state is built on the following basis: All the people have vaccinated against Covid-19 and the 3-storey Covid-19 treatment system of the province has operated smoothly and effectively with the rate of discharged patients accounting for nearly 59% of the total number of infections during the pandemic outbreak.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu emphasized that in the first stage of easing social distancing and deploying the grant of "vaccine passports" are possible for people to get 2 Covid-19 vaccine shots or 1 shot, but enough time for the vaccine to uphold effectiveness, those who have recovered from Covid-19... to go back to work. Meanwhile, those who need to continue taking social distance, including high-risk people, the elderly over 65, pregnant women…, need to urgently get testing and vaccination, ensuring a low mortality rate. Living with the pandemic does not mean relaxing the fight against the pandemic, but accepting that there are F0 cases and being ready to respond to the outbreaks of the pandemic if any.
Associate Professor - Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu also said that the SARSCoV-2 virus now has many different variants with a rapid spread in the community. Accepting the virus as part of life is the thing that needs to be considered. Covid-19 vaccines will help reduce the rate of community infection as well as severe patients. In fact, there have been no patients with full two shots hospitalized on the 3rd treatment floor where is only for severe patients. After being vaccinated against Covid-19, people also need to continue strictly following the "5K" message of the Ministry of Health to protect the health of themselves, their families and the community.
