Province further steps up fire prevention and fighting during the dry season, says Colonel Nguyen Van Nhut, Deputy Director of provincial Anti-fire Police Department

Provincial Anti-fire Police Department has just reviewed a peak campaign to crack down on crimes, ensure social security & order, prevent fighting and fire during the dry season, the Tet holiday 2013 and the festive season 2013. Binh Duong had an interview with Colonel Nguyen Van Nhut, Deputy Director of provincial Anti-fire Police to know more about the above issues…

What were the results of implementation and inspection of fire and explosion prevention at province-based units during the peak campaign?

During the peak campaign, provincial Anti-fire Police Department bent on speeding up dissemination of information about fire prevention and fighting; promoted the movement of “All people take part in fire prevention and fighting”; took anti-fire measures at province-based units; made inspection tours of units with high risks of fire and explosion; coordinated with concerned agencies to tighten control over fire prevention and fighting; gave severe punishment to administrative infringements in fire prevention and fighting; further reformed administrative procedures regarding fire prevention and fighting, etc.

As a result, there were 16 fire cases reported in the province in Q1 2013, down by 20 compared to the corresponding period last year. Total damages were estimated at more than VND2.2bln, but no human casualties were reported.

How was provincial Anti-fire Police Department’s training-propaganda work on fire prevention and fighting implemented over the past time?

Propaganda work on fire prevention and fighting is one of the department’s key tasks. We regularly teamed up with mass media to make dissemination of information about fire prevention and fighting, raising public awareness of fire prevention-fighting and contributing to minimizing damages caused by fire and explosion.

The department also attached special importance to giving training to grassroots anti-fire forces. Particularly, the department organized training on fire prevention and fighting while granting more than 20,000 certificates to participants. Along with the above efforts, province-based enterprises, including wholly foreign-owned ones, had a high sense of responsibility in fire prevention and fighting over the past time.

What are the department’s suggestions to minimize damages caused by fire and explosion cases?

Some fire and explosion cases came from people’s carelessness and unawareness over the past time. Hence, the local functional agencies need to sufficiently equip anti-fire equipment while giving training to on-site anti-fire force for timely solutions when fire cases occur, etc.
