The 2006-2010 period poverty reduction program in the province is going to wrap up. The local poverty line is three folds higher than central line. The locality is in completion of poverty reduction targets in line with local new line and is in outline of new poverty lines for the period of 2010-2015.

Impressive figures
Looking back the poverty line of 2006-2008 period, a household with monthly per-capita income of 400,000 VND in rural areas and 500,000 VND in urban areas are classified as poor households. Based on the line, the entire province remained 1,975 poor households, accounting for 0.99% as of late 2008. In the period of 2009-2010, the locality keeps raising its poverty standard up to VND780,000 per capita per month for urban areas and VND400,000 for rural ones. According to the standard, the province remained 7,417 poor households, 3.45%, in the end of 2009. In 2010, the locality strives to reduce its poverty rate under 2%.
Therefore, local poverty line applied in the period of 2006-2010 is three folds higher than the national standard and the locality has completed its poverty reduction target for 2006-2010 period as 8th local party committee’s resolution.
Effective measures
Implementing the national target of poverty reduction for 2006-2010 period, the locality exceeded and ended its poverty reduction work 2 years ahead. Till late 2008 the local poverty rate was under 1% and was one of typical provinces and cities of excelling poverty reduction. Early 2009, the province continued a general investigation of poor households and raised poverty line. Over the past one year, its poverty rate is under 3%. Some districts of Di An, Tan Uyen will decline their poverty rate under 1% till late this year.
The work of poverty reduction – employment has focused on job support, helping the poor approach basic social services. Among 10 policies making breakthrough in poverty reduction in the locality, policies of job introduction for rural laborers and demobees, loan offering for the poor and students, health insurance card granting for the poor showed significant results.
Along with the State’s assistances, local poverty reduction work is socialized by plenty of measures. Since early 2006, the provincial poverty reduction board has held many dialogues with needy households in remote areas to learn more about their aspiration in a bid to help them escape poverty sustainably. This is also a new way to reduce poverty effectively.
