Provincial vice-chairman Nguyen Van Hiep made the statement at a meeting on extending the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction between 2009 and 2010, which was held yesterday.
According to the report by provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA), the ratio of poor households in the province reduced to 3.45% in late 2009 from 5.53% in early 2009, fulfilling the year’s plan. But, there are still 7,417 poor households across the province.
The above result was due to social welfare ensured…, said Mr Hiep, who is head of provincial Steering Board for Poverty Reduction Program. He also suggested provincial DOLISA to implement policies to ensure social welfare in a synchronous way, mobilize capital for this year’s poverty alleviation programs. The province also needs to put focus on giving vocational training to rural laborers and poor urban people, aiming to help them get stable jobs.
