Provincial conference reviewing 50 years of literature and arts since national reunification: Renewing thinking and vision to rise in new era

Early April 23, provincial conference summarizing 50 years of literature and arts since national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025) took place. At the conference, five papers were presented. On this occasion, 51 artists and writers who made outstanding contributions to the development of the local literature and arts after national reunification were honored and awarded.

Artists honored at the conference

Over the past 50 years, writers and artists in the province has grown significantly. Provincial Literature and Arts Association currently has over 400 members, many of whom are also members of national-level professional associations. Numerous works have won high awards at regional and national levels, deeply reflecting the social life and the beauty of Binh Duong's people.

Various art forms from literature, music and fine arts to photography, theater and dance have been developed evenly, renewed continuously and explored creatively. Traditional festivals such as the Lady Thien Hau Temple Festival, Ong Bon Temple Festival and Ky Yen Festival have been maintained, highlighting the community’s cultural identity. Artistic education in schools, grassroots art movements, theory-criticism classes and cultural socialization activities has all seen strong development. The Huynh Van Nghe Award, creative programs and art exchanges are held regularly, with increasing investment in cultural and social infrastructure, demonstrating provincial leaders’ dedication to developing arts and culture.

According to Bui Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of provincial People's Committee, the conference served as a moment to reflect on the journey so far and as an opportunity to chart the course for the development of culture and the arts in a new phase amids the context of integration, urbanization and digital transformation. “On that basis, we must aim at building a literary and artistic culture that is rich in identity and open to integration, conveying deep humanity and spreading positive values. At the same time, we should foster a committed, resilient and creatively ambitious community of artists, deeply connected to real life and the people while developing an open creative environment that embraces digital technology and unlocks potential throughout the society, especially among the younger generation”, Mr. Tri emphasized.

Speaking at the conference, Bui Thanh Nhan, Member of provincial Party Standing Committee and Head of provincial Party Committee’s Propaganda-Education and Mass Mobilization Commission praised and highly appreciated the achievements of the province’s literary and artistic community over the past 50 years since national reunification and nearly 30 years of Binh Duong’s development. He called on the Literature and Arts Association, cultural and artistic professionals in Binh Duong to promptly renew their thinking and vision in organizing activities and creating works to match the province’s stature. Culture and arts in the new development stage must reflect the breath and pulse of contemporary social life. It is essential to make culture and arts become an indispensable part of every citizen’s life, nurturing the soul, bringing happiness and elevating the quality of people’s life so that culture and arts are truly the endogenous resources of development.

*COMPOSER PHAM DAC HIEN: Strengthening the application of digital technology in promoting artistic works

Today’s generation of artists will create many works that capture the breath of the era and of life. In the digital age and global connectivity, it is essential to promote the use of digital technology to publicize artistic works; enhance cooperation and exchange with Literature and Arts Associations in the region and other provinces. Hopefully, in the coming time, there will be many new, high-quality, emotionally resonant works with great influence, satisfying the cultural and artistic enjoyment needs of the people in the province and contributing to the national cause of literature and arts.

*COMPOSER VO DONG DIEN: Composers must know how to elevate the imagery, identity and distinctive features of the land.

"Each region has its own unique characters. The songs written about it arise from that, singing with optimism and pride about a worth-living place. The challenge lies in how the composer, with their talent, can elevate the imagery, identity and distinctive features of that land, blending them harmoniously with the music. The change of geographical boundaries, or the name of a province or city, requires composers’ creative thinking to adapt and integrate, so that local songs truly reflect the breath of life.
