On Aug 8, all students of primary, secondary and high schools came back to school and start a new school year (2016-2017). To welcome the new school year, the education– training (ET) sector made preparations in all aspects to create the best conditions for teaching and learning activities in schools.

To prepare for the new school year, the first task was enrollment for first grades of each school level. In early summer, the sector actively cooperated with localities to reckon the number of students entering 1st-grades and 6th-grades, and divide enrollment routes according to residence areas. Ms. Nguyen Hong Sang, Director of provincial Department of Education – Training, said in the school year 2016-2017, it was forecasted that the province would have more 26,500 students, including mainly at primary schools (15,000 students).
This year, preschools are prioritizing 5-year-old children to implement the preschool education universalizing project to 5-year-old children; 1st-grades enrolled 100% children residing in their locality; 6th-grades enrolled 100% students finishing primary education to enter public schools. Some localities having a high increase of student number, like Thuan An Town, Di An Town, Ben Cat Town, can be flexible in enrolment in order for all students can study at school.
To 10th-grades, over 8,900 students were admitted to 10th-grades of public schools, accounting for 73.23% secondary-school-graduates. The remaining students will study at private schools, continuing education - technical - vocational centers or junior secondary schools, vocational schools in the province.
To create the best conditions for teaching and learning activities in schools, provincial leaders and localities have interested in material facility improvement of schools. The whole province is forecasted to have more 24 schools in this new school year, including 17 preschools, 4 primary schools, 3 secondary schools. In the 2016-2020 period, prioritized educational projects are 58 schools transferred from 2015, of which 17 projects were completed in 2015 and early 2016, 27 projects are under construction. According to Ms. Sang, ET branches and schools examined and surveyed school facilities, equipment to repair, renovate damaged items, like power lines, water supply, classrooms, gates, fences… At the end of Jul, schools completed all repairing works to be ready for teaching and learning activities.
Every year, in preparation for the new school year, ET sector recruits new teachers and employees to meet standardization and quality assurance requirements at all school levels. This year, the sector recruited 1,038 officials and teachers, satisfying basically teaching needs. In summer, ET sector also gives trainings to key teachers at all school levels, then these participants will convey new knowledge to other teachers at schools to improve teaching quality.
In the 2016-2017 school year, the province will adjust the ET development plan in the direction of open educational system, lifelong learning and building a learning society; focus on education and training management; attach great importance to quality management; develop teaching and managerial staff, meet educational reform requirements; innovate policies, financial mechanisms and mobilize the participation and contribution of the whole society; improve investment efficiency to develop education and training sector; promote research and application of science and technology, education and training cooperation; actively integrate and improve the effectiveness of international cooperation in education and training ...
