From contributions by donors, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels have always accompanied the poor via social charity activities
One of programs done by provincial Red Cross Society with great significance for the poor, Agent Orange victims is the project “Cow Project”. The society has so far received 50 breeding cows from the project and handed over them to needy people. In 2015, 15 breeding cows produced 10 calves which were also handed over to other disadvantaged households. Nguyen Thi Lien, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society said the society last year mobilized additional 4 cows from the project and handed over them to 4 needy households. As a result, the society developed additional 21 cows valued at VND271mln.
Provincial Red Cross Society has regularly offered help to the poor and Agent Orange victims. With the heart of “One piece of food while hungry equals a big box of food while full”, many organizations and individuals have always accompanied the society in social charity activities. The society and its affiliates last year mobilized HCM city’s Veterans Society and many other organizations to donate 261 wheelchairs to the disabled. They also visited and presented gifts to needy people in the province and other localities, including Binh Phuoc, An Giang, Ninh Thuan, Hau Giang, Dac Nong, Ben Tre, Tay Ninh…
Last year, 39,958 needy cases got help of over VND10.28bln. Provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels were also proactive in a task of mobilizing organizations and individuals to build 34 “red cross” households worth nearly VND1.67bln and repair 24 houses with total expense of more than VND240mln.
Such these apart, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels have attached special importance to helping needy members in economic development via many effective models. There were 13,956 members provided more than VND25.7bln in non-interest rate loan to develop homebased business last year.
Mrs.Lien added that provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels have also effectively maintained the model “Charity rice jar”, donated gifts to poor pupils, visited ill members. In 2015, they mobilized donors to offer help of approximately VND48.8mln to 89,770 disadvantaged people. The total value of social charity activities done by them last year was VND65.332bln.
The above significant activities will continue being promoted by provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels, contributing to well realizing the local social welfare.
