Under the fierce sun, at a checkpoint in Quarter 1B, An Phu ward, Thuan An city, veteran Le Van Hai (61 years old), a 2/4 wounded soldier, enthusiastically assisted frontline forces in checking papers of passersby. To keep his family safe, he has self-isolated himself for nearly 2 months to participate in epidemic prevention and control work.
Hai said: "With the spirit of "fighting the pandemic like fighting the enemy", we have regularly propagated how to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among residents in the ward. Veteran branch of Quarter 1B, An Phu Ward established many Zalo groups to disseminate information. We disseminate information in small groups, choose appropriate information for different groups, thus people in neighborhood 1B have well complied with the prevention of disease spread."
Nguyen Thi Hong (65 years old), a 2/4 wounded soldier, in Noi Hoa 1 quarter of Binh An ward also joined frontline forces. Hong said: "At this time, the Covid-19 is breaking out fiercely, we hope everyone could join hands to fight the disease. Every citizen is a soldier, we only go out when there is absolutely necessary situation. This shows our patriotism, so that Directive 16 of the Prime Minister could achieve the expected results.
In recent days, Di An City and Thuan An City are two localities have high number of Covid-19 infections. With the policy of mobilizing the whole political system to fight the pandemic, members of Veteran Associations in these localities in particular and the province in general have proved their volunteer spirit. Nguyen Thu Hai, Vice President of Di An City Veteran Association, said: “Di An city has over 2,200 CCBs. In the past few days, Di An City Veteran Association has about 200 members who are on duty at key checkpoints and Covid community teams. Recently, Veteran Association of wards has received many volunteer applications of members for participating in disease prevention and control. However, we recommended Veteran Associations of wards to carefully select members who are healthy, have no underlying diseases, age 65 or younger. We are very grateful for this noble gesture of Uncle Ho's veteran soldiers."
Meanwhile, Nguyen Phuoc Dat, Vice Chairman of Veteran Association of Thuan An City, said: “During this fourth wave of Covid-19, Thuan An city has over 200 veteran members taking part in anti-pandemic works. Particularly, many members are wounded and sick soldiers who have no underlying diseases, are healthy, and have enough experience to perform guarding task at checkpoints and propagate information about epidemic prevention and control. Despite their old ages, veteran members in the wards have enthusiastically encouraged people to support foods for workers inside and outside quarantine areas.
