Prudential donates US$33,500 to build kindergarten

A kindergarten in the most remote commune Xuan Tay in the southern province of Dong Nai was started construction on Friday thanks to a contribution of US$33,500 from Prudential, the UK-based insurance company. Representatives of the sponsor Prudential, Saigon Children's Charity, and local authorities at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a kindergarten in Xuan Tay Commune, Cam My District, Dong Nai Province on June 14, 2013 The school -- located in Hamlet 3, Xuan Tay, Cam My District – costs a total of $60,000 and is designed to accommodate around 500 infants an academic year. The remaining of the investment is funded by local authorities.It is planned the construction will complete by August this year to begin receiving kids for the new school year in September.“The project gives practical benefits to poor families with children in the kindergarten age. We’d want to extend our sincere gratitude to Prudential and Saigon Children’s Charity for helping more of our children access to pre-school education,” said Mr. Ninh – head of the Department of Education and Training of Cam My.The project includes building a new kindergarten, upgrading facilities, a rest room, a playground, a warehouse, and trees around the school’s campus.Before, the downgraded kindergarten was just a classroom and always in the overloaded status as it could house 50-60 kids.“With our long-term commitment for the development of Vietnam and the communities where Prudential is working, Prudential is always active in joining charitable activities, especially in public health care, education, and community aid,” said Jack Howell – general director of Prudential Vietnam.“We look forward to starting new school year with Xuan Tay kids here,” he added.Last year, Prudential donated 8,400 scholarships to students, build 280 houses for the poor, and sponsor billions of dongs for public health care across Vietnam.
