Raining season in 2010 is to be unpredictable

From the beginning of the year, weather in the province has been unpredictable with prolonged hot sun-shining days. Mr. Phan Van Chuc, who is Director of Hydrometeorology Center, had a talk with Binh Duong Newspaper.

The dry season has begun early since October 2009 during the period of 2009-2010. Out-of-season rains are rare in dry season with the rain quantity measured from November to April was 30-50% lower than mean sunshine days while vaporization was 10% higher. Average temperature was 0.5-1.5 Celsius degree higher with serious heat waves since February, causing widespread drought. As for rains and floods, by the end of April and May transitional rains occurred in some places from small to heavy.

Currently Southwest seasonal wind has appeared and in our prediction, real rainy season will start by middle of May. However, rain volume in May and June is expected to be near or lower than average sun-shining days. Rains will be concentrated in September and October with unpredictable rainy season in 2010 while heat waves would be more extreme.

In rainy season, cyclone and lighting occur in the afternoons and evenings and could cause great damages. Therefore, the public is required to check their home to be preventive of cyclones.

Hydrometeorology Center is under Southern region’s Center in charge of meteorology and environment inspection to ensure socio-economic development and security across Binh Duong province.

The center also is in charge of informing and noticing localities of weather conditions by bulletin. Besides, propaganda to rise up public awareness on disaster prevention and minimization is also organized.

Currently, the center is invested with modern equipments including measuring devices connected to general system analyzing and offering timely and accurate information. Those equipments are expected to operate by the end of May 2010.
