According to statistics, the total amount of domestic solid waste currently generated in Ben Cat town is about more than 230 tons a day. The entire volume of the waste is collected and transported to the South Binh Duong Solid Waste Treatment Complex for classification and treatment, the one part is used as compost, and the other is safely buried in a temporary solution to reduce pressure on the environment but not an optimal one to bring about the highest management efficiency.

Dang Thi Phuong Kha, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ben Cat town, said that when implementing the pilot, people were instructed how to classify wastes at sources according to organic and inorganic types and place in 2 trash bins with different colors. In addition, the locality has recently organized propaganda and guidance sessions to help people have more useful information and knowledge about the current environmental status in the locality, at the same time, raise awareness of households about the importance of classifying and treating household waste at home to effectively implement the program, thereby replicating the program throughout the areas.

According to survey results, in household solid waste, organic components that are easily decomposed and can be processed into compost account for up to 70% and 10% of the components can be reused or used as raw materials. Input materials for other manufacturing industries, the components that must be processed account for about 20%. Therefore, if you control these ingredients well at the source, you will save a lot of money for transportation and processing; Save natural resources and especially immediately reduce the risk of possible environmental pollution.

In order for the program to classify household solid waste at source in the town to be effective, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Kha believes that it is necessary to have the participation of all levels, branches, socio-political organizations and people, do it with enthusiasm and determination. Along with that, the coordination in propaganda work, organization and implementation of waste collection, transportation, and waste treatment, associated with the environmental protection emulation movement at agencies, units and communities residential community.

Awareness and responsibility needed

In order to raise awareness and responsibility, and create a strong change in the awareness and actions of civil servants, workers and people in the town in carrying out environmental protection tasks, Interested in implementing the program, Ben Cat town People's Committee has issued a plan for 2023-2024.

Accordingly, the plan has the purpose of gradually changing habits, aiming to raise awareness, responsibility, and obligation of all classes of people in Ben Cat town in implementing the classification of biological solid waste operating at the source to contribute to reducing waste pressure on the environment; strengthen recycling, reusing, and energy recovery activities, reduce the amount of household solid waste released into the environment, and save costs of collection, transportation, and treatment, to gradually consolidate the collection and transportation network system, meeting the requirements of collection, transportation, treatment/recycling of household solid waste that has been classified at sources according to regulations.

Ben Cat town People's Committee also requires the participation of the entire political system, residential community and people in classifying household waste at sources, to further enhance the roles and responsibilities of each agency, organization, unit and relevant officials, CPV members, civil servants and public employees. Mechanisms and policies need to basically meet the conditions for implementation.

By the end of 2023, the town will consolidate the system, network and team of collecting and transporting household solid waste from district to commune levels such as selecting collection points and transfer stations (if any), means of transporting household solid waste that meets technical requirements, develop and promulgate a roadmap or frequency of collection, transportation, and treatment of domestic waste after classification, complete documents and propaganda content for classification activities, organize propaganda, dissemination, and guidance for administrative agencies, public service units, socio-political organizations, collection units, small businesses, business - service establishments, individuals, and households carry out classification.

By the end of 2024, all communes and wards in the town must classify household solid waste and meet the goals, which are rate of household solid waste in Phu An commune that is collected and processed reaches 70%, in the remaining communes and wards at 60% or more.
