On October 17th, provincial Center for Reproductive Health held a training course on implementation of the school milk program 2018-2020 for personnel in charge of nutrition in health centers of districts, towns and city.
The school milk program was to improve nutritional status, contributed to raise the stature of preschool children up to 2020, promulgated by PPC from May 2018. Specific targets to 2020 were: 100% of children in preschools are entitled to drink milk under the program; over 90% of parents are communicated, educated, counseled on nutrition and how to care for children at home; meeting energy needs of preschool children reaching 90-95%; 100% of children participating in the program must be monitored for nutritional status and improved in terms of weight and height; to reduce stunted children rate under 2%; reduce the rate of underweight malnutrition among preschool children to below 2% ...
Participants of the program are children over 1 year old who are studying in all preschools in the province. Children are given milk during nine months in a school year. Estimated total budget for the program implementation in the province in 2018-2020 was over VND433 billion. Preschool children are children of war invalids, fallen heroes, people with meritorious services to the revolution; children belonging to the poor and near poor households according to provincial poverty line; Preschool children with no fosterers are entitled to 100% free-of-charge care (50% are supported by State budget and 50% by dairy companies); the remaining children have 80% contributed by parents, dairy companies support 20%.
