The academic year 2023-2024 is gradually approaching the final stage and the high school graduation exam in 2024 is getting closer with many changes in the exam structure. To help students review effectively and achieve the highest results, high schools in the province are actively arranging and intensifying review activities for students.

Students in grade 12 at Ben Cat High School are striving to complete the main program while preparing for the upcoming high school graduation exam

The upperhand actions

At this time, high schools in the province are concentrating on simultaneously completing the main curriculum and implementing a revision plan for students preparing for the upcoming high school graduation exam. Depending on the academic performance of students, schools have suitable revision methods to help students prepare best for the upcoming important exam as well as realize their dreams of studying in future careers.

At Ben Cat High School in Ben Cat town, the atmosphere of revision is lively. Along with revising for the mid-term exam, 12th grade students are also focusing on preparing for the high school graduation exam. To ensure effective revision for students, the school has developed a plan, organized revision sessions, and assigned experienced teachers for teaching. Currently, the school is organizing parallel activities, with main courses in the morning and Phase 1 review sessions for 12th-grade students in the afternoon. According to the plan, after the end of Semester II, from late April to mid-June, the school will continue with Phase 2 graduation exam review for students, with 35 periods of review per week per class for 9 exam subjects. At the same time, the school is offering remedial classes for weak students and those who wish to enroll.

“To ensure the high school graduation exam in 2024 achieves good results, since March, the school has established a team to inspect the preparation work for the high school graduation exam in 2024. The team will conduct weekly inspections to timely grasp the preparation work for the high school graduation exam of teachers and the students' knowledge absorption in order to come up with solutions to overcome limitations and difficulties in studying for students. It is planned that the school will organize two mock exams for 12th-grade students at the end of May and mid-June,” said Principal Nguyen Minh Nhan of Ben Cat High School.

At Thai Hoa High School in Tan Uyen city, according to the statistics of the number of choices since the beginning of the year, the school has 134/275 students choosing to take the natural sciences exam, accounting for 48.73%, and 141/275 students choosing the social sciences exam, accounting for 51.27%. At the end of April, the school will hold a parent meeting for the 12th grade to inform about the study situation and implement the plan for the high school graduation exam in 2024. According to the plan, the school will continue to allow students to choose their exam subject combinations until April 22nd, then finalize the list, assign classes, and proceed with exam preparation based on the subject combinations the students have chosen.

Next to reviewing according to the general program of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), high schools also organize many supplementary review activities, such as: Organizing regular mock exams, practicing solving problems according to the structure of the new exam, providing psychological counseling for students, providing career guidance for students on how to choose a school, major that suits the abilities and interests of each student.

Comprehensive preparation for exams

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this is the last year of the high school graduation exam under the 2006 general education program. Basically, the exam still maintains stability in structure like in 2023. However, there is expected to be a reasonable enhancement of some content related to practical application in some subjects, to gradually approach the direction of assessing competencies that are suitable for the goals, requirements for developing competencies, qualities of learners, and increasing differentiation to achieve the set objectives. The Ministry of Education and Training has also issued examination regulations along with exam instructions for students to study carefully and prepare well for the exam with a readiness mindset.

Dang Xuan An, a student at Ben Cat High School, said: "To prepare for the upcoming exam, in addition to studying at school, I also actively make a study plan for myself. From now until the graduation exam, time is running out, so I will try my best, focus high on reviewing to achieve the highest results. Teachers have informed us about the new points in this exam, I will remember to avoid violations."

In the Department of Education and Training, the preparation for the exam has been implemented according to the plan. To further improve the quality of this year's high school graduation exam, in March, the department's subject department will conduct classroom observations at high schools in the province. This activity aims to inspect the implementation of teaching and learning disciplines of officials, teachers, and students in order to provide timely guidance and adjustments to arising issues, contributing to enhancing the quality of teaching. At the same time, the department also organizes inspection teams to check the infrastructure of the selected exam centers. In general, the exam centers are equipped with relatively adequate facilities to serve the exam.

The high school graduation exam is an important exam, marking a turning point in the life of every student. With close coordination between the school, family, and the students themselves, it is hoped that they will achieve the highest results in this exam.
