The 2023 Binh Duong Medical Science and Technology Conference has ended. This is the largest sci-tech conference ever of the province's medical branch. At the conference, some new and specialized techniques were also reported by medical team of the province to share practical experience in the process of treating and taking care of patients.

Many new techniques
This medical science and technology conference had 171 research topics reported. Notably, the study "Reconstruction of the amputated foot with a free polymorphic flap of the broad back muscle - ribs" was conducted by a team of doctors from orthopedic department of Provincial General Hospital.
Doctor Vo Thai Trung, the team leader, said: “The team presented an initial technique for reconstructing right foot after removing Chopart joint. It is a 20-year-old male patient, admitted to the hospital because of the amputation of his right foot, a horseshoe-shaped deformity, pain and lumps under the skin. Previously, the patient was injured during work because a press crushed his right foot. The patient underwent Chopart dissection, wound care VAC, and then covered the stump with a sural flap and thin skin graft in another specialized hospital. 12 months after the surgery, the patient was admitted to our department because of deformity of the horseshoe, pain, and raised cubital bone under the skin, unable to walk even when wearing a prosthetic leg. We perform polymorphic free flap transfer including: broad back muscle skin, eighth and tenth ribs to reconstruct the foot. The results were evaluated after 2 years, show that the foot is firm, stable, and has good motor function. The patient can walk without a prosthesis without pain.”
Also at the conference, Hanh Phuc International General Hospital demonstrated aesthetic effectiveness and safety in applying liposuction techniques combined with plastic surgery. Doctor Nguyen Van Thanh, Hanh Phuc International General Hospital, shared: “The Tumescent liposuction technique is a technique to remove excess fat from areas of the body such as abdomen, arms, legs, hips, back... in adults. The anatomical positions on the body after liposuction will show signs of skin prolapse, especially the abdomen in post-pregnancy women, need to be removed and reshaped the abdominal wall according to Tommy Tuck method so that the abdominal skin can be stretched. This is a technique that is performed with a strict process, by well-trained surgeons, so it often has high safety and high aesthetic results.

Nguyen Hong Chuong, Director of Provincial Department of Health, said: Medicine is always changing, and Dr. William Oles once said, “Medicine is the science of uncertainty and the art of probability”. Therefore, one of the important tasks of a physician is to continuously learn, research, and explore in order to come up with the most optimal solutions to serve patients.

Scientific and technological conference as an affirmation of the desire for better, more effective medical quality now and in the future. The topics and techniques presented and evaluated in the conference will be the basis to help doctors and experts develop and apply them into practice; thereby improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, promoting the development of medical industry in Binh Duong", emphasized Dr. Nguyen Hong Chuong.
The provincial medical branch always creates favorable conditions for doctors and medical staff to have practical experience in their profession, to have training opportunities in scientific research, to apply into medical examination and treatment, raising and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for people. At the conference, many reporters devoted themselves to their topics. This was a conference converging many scientific reports addressing variety topics, new updates with high orientation. Therefore, after each report, the speakers received many questions and enthusiastic discussions.
The conference had the participation of leading professors and associate professors in the Southern region, and more than 174 medical research topics in 2023 by medical staff, doctors in the province. At the conference, there were 21 quality reporting topics focusing on medical treatment system and quality improvement.
