Sentimental land of Binh Duong

Upon moving to live and work in Binh Duong, young workers and laborers far from home have received thoughtful care and attention to their material and spiritual lives from various levels and sectors, especially from mass organizations through many meaningful and practical programs and actions. From there, young workers feel the hospitality and kindness of the

Thorough care-taking

On the 10th full moon of the lunar calendar each year, the Ok Om Bok Festival (moon worship festival) of the Khmer ethnic group takes place at Chi hội 30B/4, Đồng An 1 neighborhood, Bình Hòa ward, Thuận An city. The young workers are bustling with preparations for the festival. The members of the cultural performance team take advantage of the time to rehearse their performances, while the older members, who have much experience in preparing the moon worship banquet, are busy preparing cakes, flat sticky rice, fruits, and decorative items. Each person has their own task, and although busy, everyone is very excited. Ly Thi Ngan Ha, a member of the local association, shared: “Every year when this festival comes, the whole neighborhood is eager and very happy because we get to gather with our brothers and sisters, and participating in the traditional festival helps me ease my homesickness.”

To help young workers maintain their ethnic identity through traditional festivals as well as create a space for entertainment and relaxation after working days at factories, every year the Thuận An Youth Union, Bình Hoa Ward Union, and Cell 30B/4 organize the Ok Om Bok Festival in particular and traditional festivals of the Khmer people in general. At the festival, young men and women will perform traditional music, sing together, enjoy a feast, and carry out the ritual of offering sticky rice cakes to wish each other well. On this occasion, the Thuận An Youth Union and Bình Hòa Ward Union have presented gifts to young workers in difficult circumstances and gifts for the children of young workers; thereby demonstrating the local Youth Union's care and support for the young worker community.

Home construction

Coming to Binh Duong, many workers not only receive attention regarding their cultural and spiritual lives, but the local Youth Union also focuses on building happy homes for them. Over the years, collective weddings that are civilized and economical have been a practical activity of the Youth Union for couples who do not have the means to organize a wedding ceremony.

A typical case is that of Mr. Hoàng Văn Hưng, a worker at TBS Sole Joint Stock Company, and Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lành. Mr. Hưng and Ms. Lành are from Dak Lak. After moving to Bình Dương to start their careers, they registered their marriage and have a 2-year-old son together, but they still do not have the means to hold the wedding ceremony as they had hoped. Similarly, Mr. Dong Ngoc Thanh from FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company and Mrs. Ta Thi Van, a teacher at the Little Star Kindergarten (under the Youth Support and Labor Center of the province), both families are from Nghe An and are in difficult circumstances. Due to not having the means to organize a wedding, they only discussed with both families, registered their marriage, and then started living together. This year, the Provincial Youth Union and the Center for Supporting Young Workers and Youth in the province organized a completely free civilized and economical wedding ceremony for Mr. Hung, Ms. Lanh, Mr. Thanh, Mrs. Van, and 4 other couples.

Not stopping there, there are many other activities of the Youth Union - Association at all levels in the province aimed at caring for and supporting young workers, such as providing emergency assistance for difficult circumstances facing accidents and illnesses; weekend playgrounds; legal consulting activities; and activities to care for and donate thousands of gifts during holidays and festivals throughout the year.

Along with that, cultural and artistic activities, as well as sports, are regularly organized for young workers to showcase their talents and improve their health... Through these activities, young workers and youth laborers in Binh Duong feel warm and sense the care and sharing from everyone while living in their second homeland.
