Significant efficiency of vocational training for rural laborers

Nguyen Thi Dieu takes care of her orchid garden.

With the motto of “learning in parallel with practice”, vocational training for rural laborers in the province reaches significant results. Over the past 5 years, many rural laborers have gained a stable income after participating in short-term vocational training classes co-held by the provincial department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and departments, agencies and localities.

Learning in parallel with practice

Nguyen Thi Dieu in quarter 1, Chanh Phu Hoa ward, Ben Cat town, teacher of national defense education subject at Ben Cat high school, indulges in orchid, so she often collects various kinds of orchid. After participating in the course on planting and taking care of ornamental trees at Chanh Phu Hoa commune People’s Committee (now Chanh Phu Hoa ward), she turns orchid pots into an orchid garden for business.

Her family spends money for investing in a 2,500sqm orchid garden. In addition, she manages to learn how to arrange bouquets for increasing income. At present, her income has reached over VND20mil per month. This model has contributed to place jobs for 10 sisters in this ward.

She revealed “In the past, I never thought of orchid business. After participating in the training class, I realized that I could make wealth by my ambition. Therefore, I invest bravely in my orchid garden”.

Lieu Thi Bich Ngoc’s life in quarter 5, Phu Loi ward, Thu Dau Mot city has changed positively. In the past, she worked mainly for cooking workshops. In the end of 2012, she bravely opened a cooking workshop and a small restaurant at her house after joining in a cooking class held by the municipal division of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. Bich Ngoc said that completing this cooking class with knowledge on food safety, food processing, food preservation and more, she determines to live on this work.

Joy of a stable work and poverty escape is seen clearly on face of Ly Thi Hoa in Minh Tan commune, Dau Tieng district. In the past, she and her husband lived on fishing on Dau Tieng reservoir. In 2011, the couple learnt a vocational training class on rubber latex tapping at Minh Hoa commune People’s Committee. After this class, they enjoy a stable work at a private rubber plantation with an income of VND5mil per capita per month. At present, her family has escaped poverty. “This vocational class really helped my family escape poverty”.

Impressive figures

The mentioned cases are 3 among thousands of rural laborers enjoying vocational classes and stable life. This shows that vocational training for rural laborers helps many people escape poverty. Specifically, from 2010 to 2014, the project of “Vocational training for rural laborers till 2020” held vocational training classes for 7,734 people, reaching 70.7% compared with its plan. After training, learners grasped basic knowledge, qualifying to work at companies. With the taught knowledge, 5,684 people enjoy stable jobs at enterprises.

Based on the project, there are 16 jobs in the list of vocational training. Of these, there are 7 agricultural jobs and 9 non-agricultural ones. To train effectively, the project steering board focused on developing teaching staff. At present, as many as 29 teachers have joined in vocational training for rural laborers.

Nguyen Phung Trung, vice director of the provincial department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that after 5 years of launching this project, agencies and mass bodies at all levels are aware of important role of vocational training for rural laborers for rural manpower development, contributing to poverty reduction, improvement of living standard and development of rural socio-economy and new rural building.

In the coming time, agencies and sectors at all levels should accelerate dissemination on vocational training, improvement of capacity of teachers and job placement after training and more.
