Signs of improvement in labor market at the end of the year

In the early days of October, the job market in some industrial parks of the province have become dynamic again. While enterprises are recruiting more workers to fulfill year-end orders, some enterprises in garment industry are recruiting large numbers of workers but still cannot find them.

Workers return to Binh Duong

In recent days, many workers in Western provinces and Binh Phuoc province have returned to Binh Duong to find work for the last months of the year. At Dai Dang IP and Song Than IP, every morning there are hundreds of people looking for work. Some job brokers also appeared at factory gates to negotiate with workers. Ms. NTT, a job broker at the gate of Hungder Company (Dai Dang Industrial Park), said: “Some businesses have recruited enough workers. They only need some seasonal workers for small orders, so they do not post labor recruitment information. Once the company hired the workers for a period of time, if the company continues to have new orders and needs workers, they will officially sign contracts with these workers."

Nguyen Thanh Sang, from Kien Giang province, said that a few months ago he worked for a wood company in Tan Uyen City. After being unemployed because the company lacked orders, he returned home for a while. However, he couldn't find a stable job in his hometown, so he decided to return to Binh Duong to look for a job... Many other workers in Kien Giang, Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, and Binh Phuoc provinces also have similar situations to Sang. After being unemployed and running out of unemployment insurance money, they returned to Binh Duong to find stable jobs. Especially in the last months of the year, they hope to find a job to have money for Tet holidays.

Besides some businesses that only recruit a few dozen workers or seasonal workers, there are also businesses that are recruiting hundreds of workers. For example, DSVK Industry Joint Stock Company (Song Than Industrial Park), specializing in sofa manufacture, is recruiting hundreds of official workers. Nguyen Ngoc Quan, from Binh Phuoc province, who has been accepted to work at the company, happily said: “Currently many businesses are in need of seasonal workers. Over the past few days, job brokers have been calling continuously but I did not agree, because seasonal workers will not receive insurance and other benefits. Getting an official job, although the salary is a bit low, it will be better in the long run. I chose to work at DSVK Industry Joint Stock Company because it is close to where I live and convenient for commute."

Textile garment industry lacks labor

In the last months of the year, when companies in industries of wood, mechanics, electronics... only recruit a few workers, ones in textile industry need a lot of workers. Namely, Leading Star Garment Company (Dong An Industrial Park) needs to recruit 1,000 workers, ensures an income of not less than 12 million VND/month, along with full holiday and Tet bonuses and 14 days of annual leave; when applying for a job, workers do not need qualifications or skills. Esprinta Company (Song Than 2 Industrial Park) also needs over 500 workers. TNY Vina Company (specializing in sewing elastics, shirts...) in Binh Chuan ward, Thuan An city is in need of 300 workers. To find labor sources, textile and garment enterprises not only connect with Provincial Employment Service Center to post recruitment information, but also have their staff place tables on streets to find workers.

Luu Tinh Uyen, human resources officer of Esprinta Company, said: “Our company currently has many orders from the US and Europe, so each month it needs to recruit no less than 300 workers but is always short of people. For long-term workers, the average income is from 15 - 20 million VND/month. For those who are new and unskilled, we provide vocational training and a probationary income of no less than 9 million VND/month. As soon as workers are hired, the company immediately supports 1.5 million VND/person for transport costs."

Pham Thi Xuan Trang, President of Binh Duong Textile and Garment Association, said that there are not many potential customers like in the past with large orders, businesses have to find small customers to maintain their operations. The current difficulty of garment industry is the problem of human resources.

Previously, skilled workers' salaries were from 13 to 15 million VND/month, but a decline in orders caused wages to decrease by up to 40%. The income of only 7 - 8 million VND/month has lasted up to 9 months, causing workers to not be able to make a living so they have to quit their jobs to go back to their hometowns and they have not returned, some have found jobs in their hometowns. In addition, skilled workers also constantly change jobs if other businesses have orders and pay high salaries.

Despite offering many incentives, garment enterprises are still "thirsty" for workers. Meanwhile, many workers who have just returned to Binh Duong are still struggling to find work. Explaining this issue, according to officials of Provincial Employment Service Center, workers from other provinces coming to Binh Duong to work, often go with acquaintances and friends, so wherever they go, they temporarily stay there and then apply for jobs at local factories.

Even many people have worked in Binh Duong for many years, but when unemployed, they are still afraid to go far to apply for a job, afraid to move. There are also people who used to work in garment industry, but now come back and want to change their working environment. They think that working in this industry requires sitting for many hours a day and is tiring. However, they must understand that any profession has happiness and suffering. In general, sewing is light work, its working environment is clean and unpolluted, so it is very suitable for woman workers.
