Many new records were set up at the week-long festival. For example, the festival’s “delicious and safe fruit” contest absorbed nearly 500 samples of delicious fruits, including exotic ones. The contest’s two first prizes went to Can Gio sweet mango and Lai Thieu mangosteen. The organizing board also presented 18 second prizes and 23 third prizes to other delicious fruit samples.

The highlight of the festival was a floating fruit market, which absorbed more than 200,000 visitors with more than 400 tons of various fruits consumed. The festival also featured a collection of over 300 varieties of rare and exotic fruit trees with two new records set up: “The festival with the most fruit varieties” and “The festival with the most fruit artworks”.

Many certificates of merit were also awarded to collectives and individuals who made contributions to the 16th Southern Fruit Festival held at the Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Park in HCM city.

At the fruit artwork contest, the organizing board of the festival also presented the gold medal in the group A for Binh Duong’s artisan Le Ngoc Diep with the artwork “Dau chan phia truoc” (Footprints ahead).

In the group B, HCM city’s artisan Nguyen Ngoc Tron won the gold medal with the artwork “Tu noi nay Nguoi da ra di tim duong cuu nuoc” (From that place late President Ho Chi Minh left his homeland for France to seek a way to save the country). Whilst, in the group C, three gold medals went to HCM city’s artisans, including Tran Van Thang, Phan Van Su and Pham Van Nia.
